Agree with all the above comments.

What I would add is that he seemed to have a singular approach to the game play for the team.

No plan ‘B’, no different system/plan, it was in effect a ‘stuck’ style.

Teams knew what to expect, could counter the laborious build up, as there was no apparent alternative.

A bit World War 1 in approach!

Not the best but we have had far worse. First season he made decent progress but never recovered from the play offs and that hideous sub he made. He overthought games and never seemed to go for it...a lack of plan B.

Positives...turned Cook into a top lower league striker and built the foundations of a decent competetive L2 squad.

Negtives...mishandled Jake Young and had egg on his face after Swindon spell. Football was boring and negative.

Only Halliday, Richards, Pattison, Pointon and Cook from the Hughes era remain. And that only ended 2 years ago.

Mark Hughes is a clueless Dinosaur of a manager who was dragged into a play off place because of Andy Cook. He owes all his success that season pretty much to the man who scored out of nothing.

Hughes taking Banks off and putting on Stubbs to sit on a draw, a tactic that had failed at least twice in the same season most notably against Gillingham at home showed he didn't learn from his mistakes nor even acknowledge them.

Cook hit some poor form early the following season and Hughes get out of jail card was well and truly exposed. At first I never forgave him for taking off Banks but now nearly two years to the day since he got sacked, it is the best thing he ever did. We would not be where we are now if he had fluked promotion, infact there is a chance we would be where Carlisle are as we would have been massively exposed.

If Carlisle are going to get back up this season they need to get rid of Hughes and beg someone like Steve Evans to come on board.

That’s been the Carlisle signing model over the last three seasons , with or without MH surely?

Where were those “ Good Contacts “ when he was at VP. Did we see any sign of it ? I don’t think so.

I just couldn’t stand his football. It was three steps back and then another step back! He comes across as a lovely gentleman and as a figure head of a club he is great for stimulating advertising and sponsorships etc., I was amazed when Carlisle signed him, and thought he would not last there as they would be wanting to go back up. His signings were mysterious and left us will a massive headache and an overdraft I would imagine. Certainly GA has had to wait for players to leave. Vadaine Oliver!

Spot on. To add to this it was at a time when Ryan Sparks had too much of a say in the off field footballing side of things (pre David Sharpe). Also, Rupp was showing no interest in the club and forcing it to run on a sustainable budget which crippled the club for 5 years and is thankfully now part of the history books. Easy to blame one manager or their style of football, but if we had better quality players maybe it would have been better to watch. Like McCall's first season in his second spell.

He gave us the first successful season in 6 years, in trying conditions. I don't think he should still be managing as he is a multi-millionaire, so motivation is probably an issue. But I personally won't badmouth the guy.

I was on Manningham lane we scored against Harrogate i frankly didnt care it was so bad that game.
Just never got that brand of football at that level and i just never got why such a brave centre forward was not the same when managing us ................perhaps its the modern way now with some managers dont lose whatever you do ...............btw Vadine Oliver alone just one crazy signing

Hopefully he has a decent putting game with that green.

That house has a colossal amount in different shades of boring brown and boring grey.

Ahhhh, the "negativity needs to be ignored" type messages. Our pals at Carlisle aren't impressed with Hughes ball it seems?
