WW3 starting and we get Mark Hughes as manager. What a bizarre day!

Horrifically feeble performances in the playoffs, terrible Sumner recruitment so far apart from Pattison.

He's ripped up a solid defensive four of Halliday, Stubbs, Platt and Ridehalgh and brought in Kelly who he didn't trust to start a single game last season, and Taylor, who had fans of his ex clubs openly laughing at us for signing him.

He's gone 3 at the back with probably our best wing back option in Oyegoke playing centrally in the 3, and 2 solid right backs playing wingback, they are clearly not suited to that role.

Very; very poor, and most called it before kick off.

Typically I hear he blamed the sending off for the defeat todsy

You know what I mean. I am aware they are still here, but he has ripped up the solid formation of a 4 at the back for no sensible reason.

He played our only wing back at centre half. Our 2 solid full backs from last season hung out to dry with their new wing back roles, and criminally selected Taylor over Platt.

All totally bonkers if you ask me, and if we had have been playing a decent team, we would have been hit for 5 or 6 yesterday.

 

SWEET BABY JESUS. How has Sparks pulled this off? Loved what he did at Blackburn. Hasn’t managed since Soton in the Prem I don’t think?

Good interview with Hughes yesterday. Real humility and respect on display, as opposed to Adams regular stance of coming across like he was doing us a favour by being here.

 

Hard to forgive Hughes for those two games of playoff football. Some the most negative football I've seen. Never went for it in the first leg. These are the games that show what your manager is made of and he bottled it big time.

 

I reckon we've only done this to p1$$ off Adams after he said "If they are going to get a new manager in, they are not going to get a manager as successful as myself".

 

I will be the first of this season.

Go now Hughes and take Hodges and Gent with you.

Shocking recruitment, shocking tactics.

I said earlier this week that I've never looked less forward to a new season as this, and today's horror show compounds this.

 

Its not really about one loss though. Yes, there's a hysterical element with all fan bases and because ours is the largest in the league by far, you see it more. Layer on top that our fans have been turning out in large numbers for years and have generally been rewarded with nothing but incompetence and failure for the last 20 years, save for 3 or 4 years under Parkinson.

The real rub is, I think a significant portion of our fan base, maybe even a majority, have concerns or questions over Hughes. Just as a case can be made that we weren't far off last season, a case can be made that he should have done better with the backing he had and has failed to address obvious flaws in our approach since the start of last season. You could take it further and say we were bang average and it was only down to the excellent individual contribution of Cook that Hughes looked credible at all. For many, this summer and the start of the season will go a long way to answering questions that have been building for a year, and today's team selection, tactics and performance are a huge red flag. Maybe its just an opening day duffer, but if we stick to the same system and similar line up, the month of August will only see the noise grow louder because we'll be in the bottom 6 come the end of it.

I just want to say this. It looks like MH might be on his way having failed to take us to lg1 or entertain the fans. He deserves our respect, he has not derided fans for wanting better he has always said they pay their money they have the right to voice their discontent.

He is a man who I like but obviously not the manager for this club. I will not abuse him now he is at an all time low. I will shake his hand and wish him well.

Last night fans at Tranmere who were singing their disrespect for him are a disgrace to this club.
This is not a Derek Adams situation.

 

As a youngster, a lower league player you would be intrigued by this. I can't make my mind up. It's so out there I cant work out if a good or bad thing

 

What a statement choice was my first thought but yeah, the splashing the cash bit has to change, surely? You cant hire a bloke who's only managed in the PL and carry on the self sufficient running transfer model of the club? It's until 2024 too, not a chance that bloke comes down to this level without a promise of funds.

A bloke who won everything you can in this country at the highest level, then managed some huge clubs, cant think of many more realistic boosts the players would have had this morning in training to be honest. If they dont want to play for a bloke like that, they aren't going to go far.

I take it you are being sarcastic. His record in getting clubs like Blackburn & Stoke to even stay in the PL is outstanding.

 

You clearly don't like him because he as a Man Utd legend he went on to manage Man City. We are a league two team, no one expects him to come in and play like Liverpool (though we will all be happy if he doesnt get us to play like Manure) and this is quite possibly the BIGGEST NAME appointment a League Two team have ever made as manager.

 

A softly spoken man, but an absolute warrior on the pitch. Proper old school, hard as nails.

If the club don’t back this manager, with his experience and contacts, we’ll never back anyone.
