It's easy to apply rules which try to demonstrate that the EFL has some power in its own backyard in a time of crisis. Meanwhile the much, much, much bigger issues in football are simply ignored since nobody is showing any leadership on these matters.Hulmebantam and Stafford Bantam like this. -

I don't think they will go through with the strike, I get the feeling they think they can win that game and know that the £36,000 would actually give them more chance of being paid.
That's not to say they won't do so in another game and any other game would be in EFL competition which would force their hand.
I notice that Bolton still haven't received a penalty for not playing the Brentford fixture last season, so Macclesfield doing something like this in the league would yield an unknown punishment, as Bolton should have been the warning to others but the EFL are dragging their feet on the matter.
Also you wonder why clubs get into financial trouble, look at the TV fixtures this week. Hayes & Yeading v Oxford is a Sunday afternoon game on TV, Whilst Dullwich v Carlisle and Harrogate Town v Pompey are evening kick offs on a Friday & Monday. I suppose we should be thankful the Salford love in has died down a bit.Stafford Bantam likes this. -

The way things are going, no-one is getting relegated this season.
Such a shame as it is another club that survives on a small gate attendance, which must affect their budget.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Bronco likes this. -
It's a shame for the club but it's another illustration of the gulf between the PL 'haves' and the lower league 'have nots'.
The reality for Macclesfield is that they've been a yo-yo club between the Conference and Div 2 for the last 20 years or so. They've done well over the years to run their club on attendances of 2,000 or so but it looks as though time has now run out for them. The EFL agreeing to pay the players something from the solidarity money due to the club suggests that trust is low between the EFL and the Club. Their latest statement suggests to me that short of some wealthy benefactor arriving at Moss Rose, we are all watching another club leave the EFL.Bronco likes this. -

Macclesfield have been deducted 6 points with a further 4 points suspended.
It puts them 3rd bottom, but with 5 months of the season to go, I doubt that will be the last time they hit financial trouble.Interested Bystander likes this. -

So Macclesfield's game against Crewe gets postponed by the EFL because the player go on strike. They had no option to play the youth team to fulfill the fixture as the EFL took the decision out of their hands. This game will get played at some stage.
Within a month they are given a 6 points deduction with a further 4 points suspended.
Bolton cancel a game against Brentford as their players went on strike without informing the EFL or Brentford. The fixture never gets played.
They get a suspended points deduction, that's it.
Why are we playing with two different rule books for the same offence? Is there a bingo machine at the EFL where the punishment is pulled out?Old Grey Fox likes this. -

The independent disciplinary commission gave the suspended points deduction.

So if Macclesfield get a winding up order do those of us who bought tickets for the recent postponed game become creditors .

The players did strike today but the game went ahead with the youth team. They lost 4 nil and fans were protesting outside the ground.
They have the 2nd round week off, I would guess if we fail to beat Shrewsbury, we will be playing them that weekend. -
