I'm not basing it on money though, I'm basing it in the fact that Man City will most likely win the division without having a striker and now they've signed one off the best strikers in the world. That strengthens them without question.

I'm sure Liverpool will give a decent go again next year but for me Man City are clear favourites again.

And were very fortunate to win. They created very little and the winning goal was a huge slice of fortune.

Man City were lucky not to concede a pen against Everton. PL matches have luck also.

The best teams in the world are still in the CL. Harder to play Barcelona than Burnley mate.

100% Man City are favourites next year but I still see Newcastle on what you are saying being the team to watch in the next 5 years because they are the richest club by miles. Man City are toilet paper compared to their riches.

I don't dispute that. But its still a cup competition. Luck in a league season evens out, generally speaking.

You can win the CL by winning 3-4 games against average opposition, grinding out a couple of draws, one or big wins. You can't do that in the league.

Yeah, maybe. 5 years is a long time in football so it's difficult to make predictions but common sense would say they'll certainly add competition for the regular "top 4" clubs.

What Liverpool do is currently get it right.

They don't have to always spend big on recruitment because they know the players they want and make them better. Currently an example to all teams that are not all City.

Look, Newcastle might not splash the cash that much but I think they will and then if we base football in money Man City stand no chance. Chelsea chilled out when Man City came along. Man City won't be able to compete with Newcastle, so Man City could in 2-3 years start slipping. If Liverpool continue as they do then they will always be there or there abouts.

Maybe, but big clubs want to win the CL. Big players want the CL. That simple.

Don't disagree with that. It's a hugely prestigious competition.

It's a tough debate. The PL is the hardest league to win in the world I think but the City board want CL and Liverpool want both the CL and PL. Think that's the difference between the two clubs.

Man Utd want both the CL and PL.
Madrid, Barca want both their league and the CL.
Munich want their league and the CL.

    Big clubs want them both.

City are not a big club. Their fans and manager should have been all over the CL like a rash!

However, the signing of Haaland is to boost their CL hopes I suppose but with the pressures of the PL, City need to learn for them that something has to give. Forget the league cup and PL. They need to be going all out for the CL. When they do they will win it.

City aren’t a big club, I agree. They’re much smaller than those you’ve listed in that post - they just won the lottery.

For me, there’s nothing it it between them and Liverpool. Both excellent sides. City are slightly better technically, but Liverpool have a stronger mentality. I actually think Klopp edges Pep, all things considered.

Pepe couldn’t do what Klopp does. He needs money as proven.

City are not a big club. As you say a lottery club hence why I can’t take them seriously until they win the CL and start highlighting they are a big club.

If they win the PL then credit to them but I see Leicester winning the PL as a bigger achievement. When UTD were winning PL after PL they still had average players in their ranks. City have spent about 100m on LB’s and 100m on RB’s.

Liverpool would love to win the PL. They have won it once in 30 years!!! By the same token, Man City would swap places for a CL title.

Reality is, Man City have pretty much dominated English football since Pep came in, the honours don't lie. Liverpool haven't had a domination period for 30 odd years. And yes, Man City have spent a lot of money to help them achieve that - but lets not kid ourselves money guarantees success - look at Man Utd!!!

Chelsea and Liverpool also spend a few quid. Alisson, Van Diyk and Keita cost just under £200m. Lets not pretend they are playing with youth graduates and bargain buys.

Man City are a huge club in todays game. Turnover, recent honours, stadium, attendances, finances, squad etc. They are not an 'elite' club for the romantics though. Welcome to 2022......it's not about prestige, its about £.

Tell me again they are not a big club....

Following on: This is where the big subs bench and the move to allow 5 subs is bang out of order. It rewards large big squads and makes it very hard for the smaller teams

Yeah but all the PL teams play Burnley twice. The CL winners don't necessarily play the best team or even teams twice. I think that's the point.

A very fair point, one casually overlooked by a few....'luck of the draw' I think they call it. To win the PL you have to play 10 games against Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal. Chelsea beat Man City, Real Madrid, FC Porto and Atletico Madrid to win the CL. Their group isn't even worth mentioning......as for Liverpool this season - they have beaten Villareal, Benfica and Inter in the knock outs so far.

Liverpool find it harder to win the PL and than the CL and that's a fact. Man City is quite the opposite. Some teams have the mentality for a gruelling league campaign and some have it for cup competitions.

true. in response to that though, Liverpool are extremely unlucky to be playing at the same time as Man City. Their points total would have won the league nearly every other season etc, so I'm not sure they haven't got the mentality, just not as much as Man City who are unreal in terms of points accumulation and consistency
