so if ryan kent and harry wilson play, you’re classing them as champions league winners because they are registered to liverpool fc?

most professional will tell you, if they didn’t play they didn’t win it.. look at roy keane and paul scholes’ reaction to when man united won the competition in ‘99 - both were embarrassed to be given a winners medal. roy keane is still adamant that he’s never won the champions league, as he didn’t play in the final.

I have no real desire to discuss the merits of whether Liverpool would play their exact champions league team in a friendly at Valley Parade but if you do then knock yerself out. I can't even guarantee that the friendly will be played although i have heard from a reliable source that it will.
All that interests me is that if it does to take place then no matter what team Liverpool might/will send to Valley Parade, the ground will be packed for what will/would be a momentous occasion to see one of the most popular names in world football ,whose name carries the title of champions league winners 2019/20, send a squad of players to benefit such a great cause as Stephen Darby. That is if it does take place, which i guess might do.

Im sure Klopp and the hierarchy at Liverpool will have bigger things to worry about that a fans forum with posters who have different views on what sort of team Luverpool should put out .

 

My point is more about Stephen Darby. Does it really matter who plays, if it even happens?

 

Am I missing something here? All the talk seems to be about it being an either or situation of first team squad or u23's when surely the more likely scenario is a mix of both, plus some players from yesteryear - which I also expect to be the case for the city side as well?

 

Depends what you mean by packed? I'd certainly expect over half of the capacity of the ground at least.

 

Its certainly eating away at one particular poster even though i'm pretty sure not one single person on this planet would expect Liverpool to rock up to VP with the champions league winning team even if they were all available. I'll be going regardless of what team they put out and i'm pretty sure that 99% of fans will do to. If you aren't going to turn up because you worry about what team Liverpool may or may not put out rather than for Stephen Darby then football isn't really for you.

I have no interest in talking to someone whose whole reason for coming on here is to be pedantic. Shame because on the odd time you make good relevant points but instead you seem to just pick people up on points that have little relevance in the grand scheme of things. I'd be happy to contribute something for Stephen and his charity even though I probably wouldn't be attending and that's regardless of who we play. Whether it be Liverpool or Stockport the main thing is who the match is for not who we're playing. So I'm not sure how you'd factor that into your abacus counting.

Does John Terry (in full kit) still consider himself a Champions League winner? Of course he does. He was part of the squad, irrespective of the fact he wasn’t able to play in the final.

Do I count Kent and Wilson? No. Neither were in the squad registered with UEFA for the competition.

I am sure fans both old and new will get out of their 'sick beds' and attend this game, RT. NOT because we will be playing a 'Liverpool Eleven', but to support a good and loyal servant, who was Stephen Darby. It would not surprise me to see a few Rochdale fans, also
