How about a cheeky bid for the Notts County left back. Just signed a new contract but sounds to have everything we need:

Full backs don't tend to beat a man, they usually work with the winger or wide midfield player with overlapping runs. In the run In the injury he was carrying prevented him doing that. If he has got over that I think he will be first choice unless MH goes with wing backs. Brad Halliday had Banks in front of him last season, Ridehalgh didn't really have an option.
If fit Liam Ridehalgh is a quality left back at this level.

 

Full backs are full backs because they can't beat a man. If they could they'd be a winger. At school you'd play full back if you were crap and couldn't play anywhere else. Hence why I was a right footed left back lol.

 

If you’re saying I’m fishing Kev I can promise I’m not, Halliday is a better full back than Ridehalgh I’m surprised anyone who’s watched them both would make such a comment.

 

Bang on Kev. Why waste the budget on a left back we don't need when what we need is pacey support for Andy Cook, a younger version of Adam Clayton and a replacement for Scott Banks. A few key signings and we shouldn't be far off where we need to be.
It was interesting that City and Leyton Orient scored the same number of league goals last season but Orient conceded nine fewer. As frustrating (and disappointing) as it was last season we weren't far off from where we need to be, a few key additions plus possibly a couple of contracted players moving on and we'll be good to go.
Personally once I've had my Ashes cricket fix I'll be ready to go again, full of hope and expectation.

Regarding Ridehalgh he’s a steady eddy, could do better but I won’t cry over him staying. I do agree with @ahar964 about one thing regarding full backs and that’s that Critchlow would be a good one, but I doubt he’d want to play there. Seems to think he’s the next John Stones.

I didn't say Ridehalgh was a better full back, I said he was a better defender. I'm surprised anyone who watched our last 3 games of the season can't see that

 

3 games that’s me sold. Mr back off doesn’t do that much defending.

 

Halliday played 50 games last season after being out injured for virtually the full season before it. Not surprising he was starting to look a bit jaded by the end.

 

I quoted those 3 games because they were easy to remember. I have been saying consistently all season that Hallidays defensive play isn't that great. Doesn't necessarily mean I wouldn't have him as first choice right back, but thats more because of his attacking attributes

 

Ridehalgh has been out injured and possibly still carrying an injury too.
