I think it's 6 wins, 8 draws, 3 defeats across all league games where Angol was involved.

That would mean that despite only playing 17 times, Angol has been involved in 6 of our 13 wins, 8 of our 16 draws, and 3 of our 16 defeats.

    As a percentage:

Involved in 46 % of our wins
Involved in 50 % of our draws
Involved in 18 % of our defeats

The thing is I remember games when his hold up at suffered because he was bouncing off defenders. He's not strong, and certainly isn't a battering ram type forward, and I think you need both.

Hughes' style certainly looks to suit him, but it's early days.

There will be times when we need to play more direct football and he won't be the man to lead the line.

Completely agree. In the few games Cook was unavailable and we played Angol up front we struggled as the ball just kept coming back.

Hopefully though, the shorter style that Hughes prefers that might not be as much of an issue.

Hopefully so. Adams tended to have his midfield sat deep and his lone striker isolated. Since Angol has been back he's had Vernam, Walker and Pereira buzzing around him which enables him to link play far more effectively.

It's when the ball is played to his feet that the biggest problem occurs. Time after time he fails to control it quickly and it either bounces off him or is nicked away from him. We need better. TBH Cook hasn't offered much more than 'presence' in many games since Christmas.

Like any player he's gonna have to be played in the right formation with the right personnel around him. He'll never be the prolific scorer you see at the top of the goal charts so needs players around him with goals in their armoury. We definitely need a new striker or two to compete.

The Sparks interview refers to squad needing 'layers'. Maybe 20 games and 6 goals from Angol, for a cheapish wage will work for us. The key is replacing Lavery, Robinson, Cooke and Delfouneso with quality.
As Sparks said, we're 20-30 goals short.

I'm not so sure we are stuck with him. To his credit, he is a player that wants to start every game and if he isn't going to have the opportunity to do that with us next season, he might want to go somewhere else where he is more likely to be a guaranteed starter. I guess it will be dependent on whether his agent can find him a club that can match the money he is on here though.

I don't think Cook will find another club willing to pay him what we supposedly are, and even if another club came along with an offer which would mean we were to still pay part of his wages to make up any shortfall then I don't think it would be worth it either as we probably wouldn't get a better back up with the bit we'd saved, and as a backup striker it's not a total disaster.

Observed the same myself. The number of times Ridehalgh passed him on the left only for Angol to cut in to the middle and make a safe boring pass. Looks devoid of any confidence right now.

The nature of the beast for wide players. Not everything they do will come off, being consistent in that position is tough.
