75 years ago on June 6th 19444 more than 150,000 brave young soldiers from the United Kingdom the United States of America Canada and many other Nations stormed the beaches of Normandy France to liberate the French people and start the first massive step of taking control of France and push back and eventually defeat Nazi Germany.
Just take a couple of minutes out today to think of those poor souls many kids of 17/18 and what they were thinking about the task ahead of those very brave lads.
We owe you so very much for what we have today and should be eternally thankful for your sacrifices that day and to all troops and civilians who died during that shocking war .
"For your tomorrows these gave their today".
    R.I.P

    Agree completely.

I'm sure many in here will have relatives who lived through the war, or who fought for the country. It is hard to comprehend what they lived through.

Then as now we celebrate those men and women who choose to serve our country with bravery and dedication, We should be proud of every one of them for the service to the nation and the sacrifice they make on our behalf.

Thank God we don't have to rely on today's 17/18year olds to save our country . Those generations were different class R.I.P.

We should never forget the sacrifices of all those young men and women who were willing to give up their lives to rid the world of fascism. Many continued to suffer after the war with what we now know as PTS. I have just ordered a book to read about D Day, as I know very little about it. My father was fighting away from home for 7/8 years. Montgomery was pushing up through Italy and France at the same time, my Dad was part of that army. I will always be eternally grateful for their sacrifices.

Unfashionable now and the cynics will sneer but this is the spirit that made the people of this country mobilise and fight for family, country and king, God bless them that gave the ultimate sacrifice in the belief of a better world.

The sand in their boots wasn’t English, Nor the water that lapped on the shore, They ran and they swam onto the beaches in France, Not really knowing what for.
The allied invasion of Europe, With “liberation” the Clarion call, Those who were chose by fate to survive, And those who were chosen to fall.
Gunfire and shell all around them, Frighted and frozen and lost, While we remember the glory of D Day, We must also remember the cost.
Wave after wave of young warriors, Heroes, each one, to a man, Lambs to the slaughter in freezing cold water, Remember them now while we can.

Echo the sentiments above, some really moving interviews on the radio today with veterans. I can’t imagine what they must have gone through, such bravery from the people of many different nationalities. Hopefully we and generations to come never forget. Hopefully in the future, we shall not see anything like this again and their sacrifice will not have been in vain.
