Covering his losses isn't a return on his investment is it?

He will have known making a profit year on year at a football league club was very difficult. He will have invested knowing he could sell it for a lot more should he get us to the championship or beyond.
That was his call. Not the clubs to invest what he invested to buy the club. He will get some or all of that returned when he decides to sell

I don't understand though, he's not had any ROI and isn't likely to get any ROI if he sold the club now which was what the post you quoted was questioning.

Can you point me to where I said he has had any ROI? I said he was close to it pre- covid. Mcburnie money went a hell of a long way towards that.

By return on investment I’m presuming you are not saying he has got his investment back, just he has got something back? So he has invested £7m say, including covering overspend, and he has got some of the McBurnie cash. So technically he has had a return, just a poor one

I assumed he meant that also, as there's no question Rupp has a negative ROI in real terms.

His investment has to have lost money.

I absolutely love the way football fans have this cavalier attitude to other peoples money.

If someone was to say to you you will get some or all of your money back when you sell your X/Y or Z but in the meantime I want you to keep putting more in, with no guarantee of any of it coming back....what would your response be?

And he is not going to sell now is he? Who would buy a football club at this point? He can sit tight, run a tight ship, tighten up the belt, ensure we are financially stable (or as stable as we can be right now) and wait for all this to blow over and then he might get out without too much damage or we might hit a lucky streak and he makes some money. Which he is perfectly entitled to do.
