Sky have announced their selections for games from January to the start of March.

Not surprising after our start that 3 games have been selected.
    • Cardiff (H) - now 12:30 on Saturday 17th January
    • Doncaster (H) - now 12:30 on Saturday 31st January
    • Luton (A) - now 12:30 on Saturday 7th February.
The Luton one especially isn't ideal but if we weren't being picked it would most likely we were struggling so in that sense it is a positive. The good thing is they've all stayed in the Saturday rather than a Thursday or Monday night. https://www.efl.com/news/2025/november/07/see-the-latest-efl-tv-selections/

A bit surprised that the game on 24th January against Huddersfield hasn't been picked but I wouldn't be surprised if it was moved by the police to an early kick off.

Selections for the next batch of fixtures, after the first weekend in March, will be announced on a four-week rolling basis starting from 1 February 2026

I was expecting them to move Huddersfield to 12:30 on Sky. Although can still anticipate it being moved on WYP Advice to early KO

Not a chance the Town game stays as 3pm Saturday.
Might not be on telly but it’ll be moved.

    Totally agree
Unfortunately the turkeys that are premier clubs are all voting for Christmas, and the rest just have to tow the party line. like it or not.
Would love it to collapse on the back of more dodgy firesticks
They would all be then well and truly stuffed.

It is a heck of a TV match concentration. Three games over four weeks being televised! If it wasn’t for the Lincoln Tuesday nighter, the density would be quite remarkable, as it is, it is noteworthy in its frequency of City matches being shown. I honestly cannot remember anything like this.

It was all of the clubs that voted for this deal. Clubs chase the money and they need it. The alternative to this deal was going with the DAZN offer who wanted every single game and abolishing the 3pm black out which would have been a disaster for the game as it would have opened the door for the Premier League to start selling rights for all 3pm games which only increases their money.
If the Sky Sports EFL deal collapsed it would mean the league would be in financial ruins and clubs would lose out on a lot of money. Also if the TV companies stop showing it then dodgy firesticks become useless as there is nowhere to stream the game from so everyone would lose.
We saw the impacts on football with the ITV digital collapse, if the EFL TV deals collapsed the impact would be far greater as it would almost certainly see a lot of owners pull out of clubs which would ruin them overnight.

    Exactly.

It seems quite trendy to jump on the “scrap the Sky deal” argument but if they pull out tomorrow lower league football collapses.

With the new TV deal it was always going to go up a lot, under the old deal League 1 and 2 only had a guaranteed 20 games over the course of a season now is a minimum of 20 games per club.
I think also the amount of selections is also partly down to the way the fixtures have fallen with a lot of big games in a short period, it's probably for that reason why they've left out the Huddersfield game. After the end of February the games looks a lot less attractive for TV unless we are still near the top, I wouldn't be surprised if we get to mid April when we play Stevenage and Barnsley for another TV game after Luton.

There is a serious lack of understanding about the reliance of EFL clubs on Sky's money.. Fans may not like the situation but every club in the EFL would face a financial crisis if Sky's money tap were suddenly to be turned off. Our club would certainly not be immune to that impact. It is easy to criticise Sky for their impact on football scheduling on TV. But Sky is the well heeled business who pays the footballing piper - thanks to those sports fans who pay for their legal streaming service - on which English football is dependent. As always he who pays the piper also calls the tune.

You are correct. I must admit I hadn’t realised it was 45% of all League One games, being shown live on TV. It was the fact that 60% of our games, over a four weeks being televised period, that rather shocked me. Given the deal, then it makes sense’s.

I'm at a loss to understand what the big deal is about two home games (which will attract a decent "facilities" fee) kick off by a couple of hours on the original scheduled day.

They should be financially stable in the first place

Exactly. If the EFL clubs suddenly lost the Sky money, there would be financial chaos. In our case, ticket prices would have to increase by about 50% to simply make good the lost income from Sky. And that's before taking account of advertising and sponsorship revenues lost by not being shown on TV. I can't imagine many fans welcoming that.

We have 2 games moved so it should be scrapped.

    Great logic.

Like the TV deal or not, the three January/February matches have been moved in line with the Sky TV deal with the EFL and the agreed notice period for fans.

What does seem wrong is the Plymouth match, it should have been a 3pm kick off. Before the season starts each club has to confirm its normal kick off times and, in Plymouth's case (as with everyone else at the moment), that is 3pm for Saturday matches. It is my belief that by moving it to a 12:30pm kick off, the EFL/Sky have breached the terms of the agreement and the promise made to fans.

But is it not fair to say with our larger than average fan base, being a sustainably run club and increased advertising we'd be less prone to financial ruin than clubs attracting 3k fans and owners who'd swiftly depart with the loss of TV revenue if this was to happen? Bit like the playing field was levelled when the I follow deal, which benefitted well supported clubs, moved to Sky which benefitted all equally.
Personally I'm not too fussed about 1230 kick offs on a Saturday but do dislike the Thursday ones.
