I'd hazard a guess you've never been to Belgium. Over a thousand beers and the tens that I've tried (some of which are at a supermarket near you) are definitely not alcoholic water.

I'm a former staunch ale drinker, so much so, that if I walked into a pub and there were no handpulls, I'd walk out. However, due to there being no cask ale over here in Estonia (yet), then I've had to modify my drinking preferences a bit. So much so, that I started importing a load of craft beer. Now that scene has fully taken off, you can't find a beer that doesn't hit you full in the face with hops. Sometimes its nice to taste the other ingredients. Due to that, I've often found myself just wanting a nice, clean lager to slake my thirst. I'm not talking Carlsberg, Heineken and those other mass market suds, but German and Czech lagers and Pilsners that have some provenance and taste. I went on a tour of the Pilsner Urquell factory, including the 10km of underground caves that they "lager" their beers in. In one of the caves, they give you a beer straight from the barrel. Unfiltered, unpasturised, "room temperature" (around 10c). Absolutely the best lager I've ever had. (yeah I know a Yorkshireman should have complained about the size of that head, but in this instance it all added to the experience).

Try sitting in a beer garden in Cologne, drinking a cold glass of Kölsch and saying lager is awful. The perception of all lagers being bad, is the same perception that all ale drinkers wear anoraks, have beards and enjoy a good yomp.
Anyway! Don't we have a beer forum for this sort of chat? We're in danger of being deleted by the admins I bet!vanginger, River_City_Bantam, Gardscoigne and 4 others like this. -

I wonder, will there be a range of non alcoholic beers for us non drinkers? Maybe those whom drive to the game?
It may seem a strange request to some but as a consumer, I'd like the option available.RCarol, 1975citygent, Hoochy-Min and 2 others like this. -

Now that is truly disappointing news. Molson and Coors, individually and together, are exactly the type of industrial brewers that I was grumbling about earlier. Bland, adjunct-laden, alcoholic pap. Molson used to be good, but that all ended through the 70s and 80s, when the marketing mentality won out.
This was chance to support local (craft) breweries, and get some quality ales & lagers into VP. Pity it's been wasted.

It’s funny, because yesterday I saw Carling in a Tallinn supermarket for the first time. My past is catching up with me over here! Of course I had to buy one to check it’s still as bland as I remember.
It was, but still was an exciting moment! -

I'm aware that more specialist, flavoursome lagers are available. I'm rather partial to a bottle of Cobra with a curry.vanginger, Inspector and Hoochy-Min like this. -
