Wow i never realised Hanson went 43 games without scoring, is that true Monkey?

 

Yep. According to soccerbase anyway.

He scored on his debut for Sheff Utd against Wimbledon then didn't score again for 18 months until he netted, ironically, for Wimbledon.

 

Interesting facts them Monkey, got any more?

 

According to Google Alan Smith went 70 Premier League games without a goal which is staggering really. Can’t see anyone surpassing that in today’s results-driven, money-hungry game.

Interestingly, the only other Premiership player to go on a 50 + game goal-drought is a player @Interested Bystander will know, Luis Boa Morte, who went the entire 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons without finding the net!

 

Smith played in CM a lot of the time though and I'm fairly sure Boa Morte was more of a wide player than a striker.

I guess the difference is that Hanson was 29/30 years old during the 18 month goal drought you are referencing, clearly in major decline from his peak, having been run into the ground by Parky and had several injury layoffs. Prior to that he'd scored 76 goals in a distinguished Bradford City career.
By contrast, Guthrie, at 26, should be at or near his peak.

 

There's no defending the runs they've both had, they're both truly terrible.

I wish I could be bothered digging up the football league's longest barren runs but Google just seems to throw up PL stats.

I bet there's not too many centre forwards completing a full season (46) apps without scoring though.

 

Yes, they are truly terrible. But Hanson was physically knackered - a pale shadow of his former self - when he had his, whereas Guthrie should be at his peak. So, whilst they are both terrible, one is far more understandable than the other.

I do remember John Radford in the 70s. Arsenal legend, double winner, etc etc. Signed for West Ham and went a whole season without scoring. Then moved to Blackburn and scored on his debut.

 

Dropped for Vale's game last night. Theo Robinson started, the player i believe they'd deregistered to accommodate him.

If he goes all season without scoring then maybe as that is some going.

 

33 games at the moment. 10 games to go to match another well known ex City striker.

 

Yeah imagine being a striker for Bradford City for almost a whole year and not scoring 1 goal of any description (disclaimer he may have scored in training or pre match warm up)
