    CITY SECURE HENRY SIGNING

    Just now

Bradford City have completed the signing of former Premier League midfielder Karl Henry.

Henry, who spent last season with Bolton, has put pen to paper on a initial two-month deal with the club.

The agreement will keep the former Wolves, Stoke and QPR player at the Northern Commercials Stadium until at least the end of January.

Henry, who has made more than 550 career appearances, said: “I am delighted have signed for Bradford and am relishing the challenge.

“I went to Bolton last year in a similar situation and certainly helped them stay up, so, hopefully, I can come and help the boys with what already seems to be the start of a turnaround.

“It is obviously a huge club and one of the things the gaffer said to me was ‘come and play in front of 15,000’. They are expecting around 20,000 this weekend – and for League One that is huge support.

“I have heard a lot of good things about the away fans as well. It is important the supporters are behind us and we have got to do everything on the pitch to make sure they are.

“For me, being in at the bottom at this stage, it is early days. Bradford are not cut adrift – we are not miles apart, it is not a huge mountain to climb.

“We have got to get some wins on the board and tomorrow is massive for the club. When you are down there, everyone you are playing around you becomes that six-pointer.

“One thing that I have gained from these experiences is that it is not the end of the world to be down there in the early part of the season.

“I am very keen. Anybody who knows what I am about knows I am competitive. I am a winner and I want to play games.

“I want to come here, earn a place in the team and help the club get out the relegation zone. If I can earn an extended deal then that is my target.”

City head coach David Hopkin added: “It is a fantastic signing for us and Karl will bring a wealth of experience to the team.

“He is in great shape and is raring to go. I know he is relishing the chance to come and play here and I think he will do a great job for us.

“We have been working for a few weeks to get the deal over the line, so we are delighted to have it done.”

Henry’s arrival is subject to FA clearance and the ex-England youth international will wear squad number 48.

He will give us some extra steel in midfield.
Him and the 2 O Brien's with Caddis gives us experience and hopefully some tough tackling.

I will take a rain check on commenting, as all can look better on paper with a signing but then you have Scannell, McGowan et al

true enough Dave but I can't see Henry running alongside somebody for 5 yards, let alone 50 without putting in a challenge.

Well done DH in getting Henry in. Very pleased with this one.
I know it looks a quality signing on paper, but I actually think he will do well on the pitch for us

Could be the Gary Jones type character we need

Fair point but this time I'm willing to say. he is exactly what we need. Bridges that gap between defensive midfield and getting in the box. We have players who are either or

Did well at Bolton last season, when he came in their fortunes changed, let's hope for the same.

Have his legs gone? We need some pace and power in the middle - tough but not impossible ask for a 35 year old.

Wonder if this could signal a change in shape? Presumably Hopkin still wants to accommodate both O'Brien's and I get the sense he thinks he can work with Akpan too.

Not much to lose on a 2 month deal though, let's see where it ends.

He did a reasonable job at Bolton. Two months - it's up to him to prove he can do it. Let's hope he puts in the same effort as the last two to come in.

This signing identifies just how utterly ridiculous signing Josh Wright was and then making him captain!!! The fact he is now so far down the pecking order in an awful squad says it all really.

I expect that JW and JR (if fit) will be loaned out come January to free up some wages to allow better quality to come in. Not hard I know.

Looks to be the experience we need to allow us to have more chance of managing a game and dare I say it, even controlling it a wee bit.

Green shoots of optimism are showing. DH seems to have a good eye for what we need.

Good signing. He will not only be an improvement in midfield but like Caddis has the know how to tell other players where to be. When to push when to sit back etc. And he will know how to play in a more expectant crowd at home.

    We seriously lacked that.

Also a bit of height too for set pieces.

All in all a good signing in my eyes. His legs may not be what they once were but his brain will be. And he will have no doubt get himself fit.
