Great player. Has all the attributes, can only get better. TBH I wouldn't ever worry about praising a good Leeds player - it's been a long long time since we were even at the same table!

And he comes over as a very level headed lad when I've listened to his interviews, born just across the road from the stadium.

A work colleague knows him very well.He is very much a normal lad.

He has just bought a very expensive house in Linton near Wetherby.
So a “normal” lad with a load of cash, big house and flash car.

The football league is littered with them, lads who if not for their footballing ability would offer little in the real world.
Good for the lad buying a house it that post code is a very smart move, but as the saying goes in Phillips case "you can take the lad out of Beeston but you can't take Beeston out of thd lad".

I always laugh when I imagine the “locals” of Linton and Wetherby cringing when normal people like us who happen to be good at football and earn a fortune turn up in their village without a plum in their mouths.
Most of them are probably only paper millionaires anyway.
Looking down their noses at anybody who isn’t like them.

I can't even claim that mate :(, but yes they'll be behind the curtains doing a bit of "peeping" as the removal van rolls up.

Yes absolutely. Hard one to call, normally players like that end up at massive clubs for serious money. He might buck the trend?

He may not need to get a move to earn big money I hate to say this but I believe Leeds have a owner/owners in place with ambition that could make them a top 6 Premier League side within 5 years.
I'll go and rinse my mouth out now.
The lad has earned his place in the present England setup with his consistent performances for Leeds and looks a good fit in Southgates team.

My work mate also said him and his agent will be meeting the club after the euros to have a look at a new contract to replace the one he very recently signed.
Currently on £50k plus a week.
Make hay while the sun shines I suppose.
Very much in a win win situation regarding contracts now with his England performances.

As you say being in the England team should give him bargening power, I think Leeds will become a real force in the Premier League will the fact that the lad is local and a Leeds fan have a bearing on his future.
Although £50k may sound a fortune to us playing for the likes of Man City/United, Chelsea, Liverpool I'd think he'd command double that at least ?.

I presume the “meeting” will start with the numbers being touted at least double the 50k he’s on at the moment.
I hate the phrase “it’s only a short career”. But I do understand that when you are in a strong position you need to fill you boots as you never know what’s round the corner.

Incredible to think that City were paying Carbone £40k a week - 20 years ago!

And he was offered on loan to Leeds and they turned him down as he would have become Leeds highest earner, those were the days.

Not for me. He's more like a curate's egg - good in parts.
He did a great job of ambitious, but controlled, investment to get us into the PL and keep us there. But then he blew it completely with his 'six weeks of financial madness' and sacking Jagger.
In hindsight, great day though it was, I often feel our club history would have been so much better if Wethers had missed that header.
