William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, was one of Philadelphia's most prominent citizens. His two maiden aunts owned a bakery that was known far and wide for its fruit pies, reputed to be the best anywhere.

After many successful years the aunts quarrelled, and eventually stopped speaking to one another. One aunt left to open up her own bakery, as it happened just across the street from the other. Soon a price war broke out, with each aunt lowering her prices to undercut the other. At one point they were both selling their pies below cost. This caught the attention of all the townsfolk; nobody talked of anything but...
