January 26 transfer rumours

Suggested on Leyton Orient site that we might be after their ex player and Swindon striker Aaron Drinan. Anyone remember him or have any views?

100%! Looking through stats this week and Humphrys is ranked joint 5th for shots this season in L1 (55 shots), only 2 forwards have shot more than him this season in L1.... when you toggle out players who've not played a lot of minutes, so just players who have been at worst squad players this season, Humphrys ranks 150th in L1 for shots to goal conversion.

No knock on him as he's not an out and out finisher, but we'd be walking this league if Humphrys could finish even a handful more efforts. Need a proper finisher in an around that box.

 

Not seen much of him, but always looked dangerous. Would take a sizeable bid to tempt Swindon to sell you would imagine. Scored quite a few this season.

 

I would have loved him to reach 100 goals with us and am absolutely convinced he would have done if not for the injury that has sadly killed off all hope of that ever happening. He is clearly still desperate to play but if GA doesn't think he's worth that chance with us, he deserves to take it elsewhere. I did have a hope that we'd get the opportunity to say thanks and goodbye to him on Saturday - either at half time or the end of the game in some way but there was no guarantee that would have happened and I don't think it will now as I expect a deal will be done this week. Sad all round really that it's ending like this.

 

One of those random EFL ITK twitter pages linked us about about 3 or 4 other clubs with him about Christmas time I think.

He's scored 19 in 22 in all comps this season, the first season he's really done much in his career by age 27, he had a decent return in 2022 when he scored 13 in L1 from 40 apps.

Pattison and Cook as 3rd/4th choice options are about as good as you’ll at this level with our budget. Replacing both of them, as well as signing the 3 or 4 players we needed anyway has left us with a lot to do. Imperative now we make a couple of statement signings, especially given our position in the table.

I still think Sibley is the Pattison replacement as he will be used at CM and AM. Agree we need a CF and im also hopeful of another CM/AM.

Shame that Cook won’t see out the season with us, but there’s no sentiment in football.

GA himself said he picks the team based on how to win the game now, not based on form 18 months ago.

Whatever happens Cook will quite rightly be one of the legends of this club and no one can take that away from him. He loves the club and we love him.

Sign and signature can apply to permanent and loan moves. The headline for Sibley joining was "Bradford City sign Oxford midfielder Louie Sibley on loan"

 

Reading up on Sibley I know he’s played at wingback and AM, but iv’e not seen anything to suggest he’s suitable for a CM role. Doesn’t mean he can’t play there but we need specialists rather than square pegs in round holes if we’re to progress.

Think we need a striker, AM, and 2 midfielders minimum. Personally think Humpryhs and Lapslie would be fine for the AM positions when Sarcevic/Pointon are out, but the fact that GA has bizarrely preferred Wright and Kavanagh there instead means we desperately need to upgrade in that particular area. Not convinced Sibley is the answer but I guess time will tell.

 

In the 12 games up to and including the 2-2 against Barnsley we scored 22 goals.
This included games against the so called 'big teams'
In the 12 games since we have scored 12.
Something tells me we need goals from somewhere and unless Swan, Sarce, Pointon and to some extent Humphrys get back to scoring as before, we need a goalscorer. Someone who doesn't necessarily feed off the press but can make a goal out of nowhere.

Was impressed by Botan Ameen at Swindon last season. Bought by Norwich, they should be looking to loan him out.

It'll be a sad day when Cook goes, but he will leave as a legend of this football club and with our best wishes.

I agree that we've evolved in our style so much so that Cook is no longer a starter. However, I can't understand Cook not being in the squad when he's a more than capable plan B and the best finisher at the club.

 

Here is a question if Cook was playing for another club under exactly the same circumstances. Would you be happy were we to sign him
