We seem to have a strong team ethic/unity - and a big marquee striker would come with a big salary. This in itself can undo this harmony in the dressing room and cause unrest/resentment with Billy Big Bollocks earning a load more than the others. It’s a very delicate balance and I’m sure GA is aware of it and is capable of making a good call. Imagine how you would feel if somebody was employed to do the same job as you, yet was earning xx£ more than you. You wouldn’t be happy, (unless the player was so good, and banging goals in for fun, maybe he can then justify the fee/salary).

The absolute worst thing we could do is make a disaster Aaron McClean type signing. Panic buy for a fee and lock up loads of wage, and then be stuck with a donkey on a three year contract.

Fully agree. We just need to ensure we have sufficient strength up top. Assuming Wheatley signs, even then with Humphrys and Swan I think we are dangerously light.

A loan move for a striker with decent experience in the Championship, short on game time (eg similar to Sibley) would be ideal. Is there many of them?

Note - aware we also have Kavanagh but hoping he might move out on loan for some game time himself.

Agreed. A loan centre forward would be ideal.

I think one issue we have is that we already have 2 players competing for the 1 CF role. I'm not sure a club in the divisions above would loan a player capable of getting good goal returns in L1 without there being guaranteed game time.

Ideally Humps just needs to massively step up his game. He's meant to be that guy. Or Swan needs to deliver if Humps isn't up to it.

At 33 maybe a little past it but what about Sibley's team mate Tom Bradbury?.. not playing often at Oxford and I don't thinks he's scored for them since joining from Millwall(where he scored 43). Might be available for loan and add a bit of steel up top?

Unfortunately I really don't think Humps is that guy. Hope he proves me wrong.

I agree. My prediction is he won't finish his contract here. I'd love to be proven wrong.

His finishing just isn't good enough for the role he was hired for.

That miss vs Cardiff was such an important moment. As soon as he missed I looked at the reactions of the other players. You can see they are as frustrated at him as the supporters are.

A Peter Thorne type character . . Might be useful if mobile for the next few months

All forwards miss those chances. It is not like he is missing chance after chance?? They seem few and far between. His career goals tells you he is not a 15 goal a season man, his best ever season tally was 11 goals 5 years ago. Alexander is choosing to play him there. He is a good player, if he was banging in more goals he would probably be in the championship. The issue here is the club not appearing willing or able to spend on a regular goalscorer.

He is though. I don't have time to dig up the data, but me and other posters have shared some stats in other threads. Humps has some of the worst finishing in the league.

The issue is he was hired as a CF goal scorer. In all the interviews from Alexander and Humps he was told he was being brought here to play as a CF and score.

It's not the player's fault, but I think we got that signing wrong.

The Dogs are looking at Imad Rondic on loan from FC Koln.. 27yr old 6' 3" forward.
I wonder if we are also looking further afield?

It’s so difficult as a fan, especially in January. You see others making signings in positions you feel we need addressing. None of us, I think, know what’s going on really, but you imagine every signing is going to improve the teams around you, but boy do we know, that isn’t always the case. I think City have got beyond panic buys. When I was employing people always better to not appoint than make a costly mistake. ( I wish I always listened to my own advice by the way). Having said that, I do feel, like loads of others, we don’t score enough goals and the form table for the first time this season suggests us falling behind the top two. You’ve got to trust the current recruitment team though. Such a good record recently. It’s easy to shout splash the cash when it’s not yours. Cool heads required for the next few weeks and if nothing turns up, because the right player at the right place isn’t there, we don’t want to disrupt what has been a terrific season so far on a desperate bid.

We will look back this time next year in my opinion and think opportunity missed. The league will be so much tougher next year, we are in a great spot to push on I don’t get it really don’t. Let’s see next few days but it’s not been impressive to say we are so close.
