January windows should just be to bring in new players to cover for injuries in the main. Very rarely a club will allow a top goalscorer, midfielder or defender to leave then.
Setting up for a successful season 99.9% of your work should be obviously done pre-season.

That’s fair but if clubs are in financial trouble…most are these days, then money talks, especially if a quality player has a contract that ends in June!.

Common practice and has been for years.

I think there's always good players available in January, often there are players who are playing at a lower level on loan and their parent club wants them to step up a level so recall them then sent them out on loan again. There's also going to be players who might be in championship/league 1 who are struggling for game time and their contract expires in the summer so the club let them leave on a free/low fee to offload them before summer.

The City way is to accept a cheeky bid for someone like Cook, from a “rival” like Carlisle (who could probably use a replacement for Wyke).

I want to see us take a serious look at York City's goalkeeper Harrison Male, and Halifax Town defender Adam Senior.

We can fairly easily make room in the squad for both, both are a great age, and pulling up trees in the division below ours.

Which means both cost money so will be completely out of our price range. We're Bradford City, we don't try to run, we're happy just plodding.

Yet despite loads of people saying it every year it never happens. Last one I can think of is maybe Windass? Nearly 20 years ago

Male is an interesting one. Ex Leeds youth captain and dropped down the pyramid to play for Worthing and Dorking, where he was player of the season at both clubs before his move to York City. York doing very well this season and hopefully will get promoted back to the football league.

Last decent keeper to come out of York ( Nick Pope Newcastle)

Started off at Ipswich and like thousands of other kids , developed later in non league football.

Most important transfer is replacing Gent and finding a good replacement. Sharpe has been underwhelming, the Callum Johnson signing a complete disaster......who could have foreseen that given his injury record!!

Fair, but Sharp does the wheeling and dealing, Gent is the identifier from the start.

Plan for the future with investment in young up and coming quality? Or recruit journeymen who once had a decent spell? I think we know it won’t be happening Jon.

I agree mate. He shows promise but you can tell this is his first taste of league football. He gets forward and then seems really slow to get back. Against Donny he was clearly injured and should have out his hand up to be subbed. Their second came from him not being able to get back. It's all learning though and he shows a lot of promise. GA just needs to recognise when it's time for Halliday and when it's time for Benn.

He's that non league standard centre half who was the laughing stock of a defence that conceded the most goals in the division last year. It was his first full season at this level in his entire career though and at 27 he's obviously just a kid with loads of potential to improve.

The thing is, GA is hell bent on getting Halliday into starting eleven no matter what. Left centre back, right centre back, you name it. I get he’s a good solid pro, but play players in their strongest position. Either Benn or Halliday and not both.
On the upcoming transfer window, I don’t see many coming in at all because we haven’t really seen what the summer recruits add to the team because they’re nearly all injured. At the end of this season we must see another major clear out and focus on bringing in players who have spent more time on the pitch in starting 11’s, rather than squad members or sick notes.
