Unfortunately some of morons at the Preston game a few years ago don't think like us, as you say in any walk of life you look after yourself and family.

 

I don't believe for a minute Sparks got involved but I do believe with Oliver being a Hughes signing and the deal Oliver got Hughes was hoping when picked he'd show why we bought him, unfortunately it didn't work out and Hughes had to bring Andy back as a starter, I posted at the time I believed Hughes was playing Oliver because he'd brought him to the club.

 

During his Tippy Tappy pod cast with Sam Allardyce he said he believed he'd been sacked too soon as he thought the way he wanted us to play was just coming into fruition, he was the only one.

 

Not at all, it's a reasonable return but my point was that I think the teams return would be higher with Cook as the focal point.

Agree but what/ who is he replying to?

 

Probably half the clubs in L2, at least, would have wanted/needed an experienced, reliable, non injury-prone goalscorer adding to their squad in January to help them consolidate automatic promotion/ get into the automatics/ get into the playoffs/ get out of the drop zone/ avoid slipping into the drop zone etc. But apart from Jordan Rhodes to Mansfield (who would never have suited our current high pressing tactics) none of them has succeeded in recruiting such a player (please correct me if I’m wrong about that). Even Walsall, currently streets ahead at the top of the division, were unable to replace Jamille Matt with anyone but kids, despite his physical presence being crucial to their way of playing. This suggests that no such beast was available (or willing to move to L2) for the sort of money that any current L2 club is able/willing to spend.

Add to this the fact that it’s known to all clubs that we have just lost the services of the division’s standout striker and have no one else that can do a remotely similar job. We were therefore bound to be quoted top dollar for any suitable player, assuming that one was actually available in January, which seems doubtful. So we were never going stump up for an expensive Cook replacement without first getting Oliver off our books, since he was on such a high wage. If no one came in with a firm offer for Oliver until deadline day we were left with whatever scraps were then available and GA, quite rightly didn’t want to get in ‘just anyone’.

 

I feel I have my sanity back.

 

Seems it wasn't only us. Rumour from Cheltenham side was that we enquired again on deadline day for Matty Taylor but he had no interest in moving anywhere.

Walsall tried for Freddie Draper again but couldn't agree a fee. Wrexham paper saying a few L2 clubs had talks with Ollie Palmer in the final days but nothing could be agreed. Seems like nobody wanted to try greener pastures

 

So “ Anybody” it was then…….

Respect on the donation. I have nothing against Carlisle but not sure Hughes will be your saviour tbh. On the so called hatred that seems to have been built up over recent years by a certain number of fans I would take with a pinch of salt. Like all clubs we all have idiots who don't have a brain cell and don't think before they speak(sing) yet it seems the whole fan based is then tarnished.

 

What was unforgivable about Wells was that he refused to consider any move apart from Huddersfield. Wolves were also in for him.

Pointon going to Huddersfield would be even worse than Wells who wasn’t one of our own.
