Parkinson never rated him and let him go, in fact only Taylor played him regularly. He was a good goal scorer from midfield but not a good midfielder. He didn’t track back and pick up his man like good midfielders do. I remember an article in Width of a post slamming Parkinson for getting rid of Syers and replacing him with a 35 year old journeyman. That journeyman was Gary Jones.

@Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander will remember the great Alan Devonshire who was working as a forklift truck driver and playing semi pro for non league Southall. He walked straight into the West Ham first team in the old First Division and ended up with eight England caps and an FA Cup winners medal.
It's unlikely that City could unearth such an exceptional gem but I'm sure there are very good players to be had in non League.

Aaron McClean was banging in goals for fun for my home town club of Grays Athletic and subsequently had a good FL career. Shame we got him when he was in drastic decline. I saw him play for Ebbsfleet in a NL South playoff a couple of years back and he did absolutely sod all, even at that level.

He actually went up a level as Doncaster were in League 1.

From the T&A at the the time, ‘........today admitted the chance to jump a division with Doncaster was too good to resist.

And he stressed there was no rift with Phil Parkinson over his departure from City.

Fans favourite Syers looked set to sign a new deal at Valley Parade but quit last week after Dean Saunders made Rovers’ interest known.

Coventry were also keen on him, and Syers revealed the attraction of League One football was the decisive factor.

He said: “I’ve had two great years at Bradford and I was more than happy to stay’.

“I just felt the opportunity to join a club that will be challenging at the top of League One was too good to turn down.

“I kept thinking that if I turned it down, would I get that chance again?

I agree with you on this. Nowhere near Frank Lampard, but with similar qualities as you say, around arriving late into the box. I was disappointed he left as I felt he was a good finisher ,and could of been a good goalscoring midfielder for us.

They've got that from a Leeds Fan from football league world, so if he's well informed, there maybe something in that. Edmondson in Guthrie out. DMH & Samuels out, Knight and a left footed winger in and I'd be happy. Not sure if we'll offload Ismael but he's another one that we should be seriously considering letting go of.

With Ismail, then it was reported that he could be out for up to 3 months, on the 6th December 2020 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55208127
So if it is that length of time, then it could be the beginning of March before he is available. There are 13 games (at the moment) after the 5th March. A lot depends if he just ‘breaks down’ yet again. He is now 27 and has only played 126 matches and a further 68 as a sub. Guthrie who is of a similar age (yet has also missed loads of games) has nearly 50% more. On his day an exciting player, but unfortunately they do not come round very often. If he would accept being paid off for the basic salary, then perhaps a good move. I cannot see any club offering him a contract at the moment, as he he is a regular casualty!

    Hes in a bcafc kit.
Maybe we are having a behind closed doors training match as the players need to be kept fresh.
I can imagine Connor Sellars has enough contacts over at Ewood park to organise a quick friendly.
