A few fans having a twitter meltdown this afternoon after his missus liked and then unliked a tweet from a fan account, who said Walkers pause to clap during his walk around the pitch on sat was a sign that he is leaving the club.

 

And therein lies a tale . Social media spreads bullshit and bullshit is soft and spreadable. It just needs one cluless fool to speculate .

 

Heard a rumour yesterday that he’s signed a new contract. Hopefully it’s true

 

Well we will know soon enough. I think it might be today or tomorrow they release their list of players who are staying and ones that are leaving.

Could be up in the air for most of the summer along with others it will probably just say he has been offered a new contract or not. Then we wait to see if he signs it

 

We have a year option on him, so from that perspective it is just if we want to keep him.

I think we will, but if there are any delays it is likely that they want him to take a lower weekly wage spread across 2 years instead of 1.

 

Could be a good option for both sides with some nice incentives attached.

 

Or the same deal, with incentives , because roaring inflation will have reduced their spending power just like us.? I suppose it’s what other clubs offer in comparison?

I don't know how it works when the club has an option in their favour, I'd presume other clubs can offer a deal but maybe it can't be accepted unless we agreed to let him go. Any player with a year option is still under contract with the club until the club decides otherwise, as far as I'm concerned.

If he was not going to sign a new contract, you might have thought he would wait until he knew where he was plying his trade from July.

 

Yes I remember a similar situation with regards John McLaughlin, pissed him about even letting him train with us pre season, he left and made a very good career for himself.

Without a doubt, apparently the goal keeper was a low priority, I remember asking John what was the situation for the coming season and he replied the situation is in the clubs hands.
Shame he didn't have a similar mentality as Mr Clough who knew how many points a certain Peter Shilton would save the club.

 

He is/was living up Baildon in another rented slot but the owner has that house on the market now after driving past last week to help my dad move from the next street behind. So Walkers likely looking for his 3rd property inside of 6 months, unless he is planning on buying the terrace he is renting now. When he was moving from here, he had his house in Edinburgh on the market, no idea if it sold or not though.

That will be their decision to make, I think todays news confirms my thoughts that he will be offered less yearly terms but on a longer contract, or it would just have made sense to activate the clause. Whether Jamie and his family find it reasonable, we will have to see. He featured in 54% of game time last season, not acceptable in any other line of work, I'd love to only work that long wit full pay! So I hope they are realistic and philosophical about the situation.

 

Of course . On a side note you and I are not pro footballers with an average career length well less than 20 years, so being pragmatic comes with the territory.

 

I'm really sure you can compare it with any other line of work. In other jobs you don't have to miss a days work because you've had a bone broken in your leg by someone else. You also wouldn't get 75% through your day then you boss tells you to go home and replaces you with someone else. It's not like he's refused to work, he's honoured the terms of his contract so should be paid in accordance with that.
