Jamie Walker (with Poll)

Discussion in 'City Talk' started by Silverbantam, Apr 28, 2024.

?

Are you happy with Jamie Walker remaining a City Player

  1. Yes give him a 2 year flat contract

  2. Yes give him a 2 year incentivised contract

  3. Yes extend his current contract for a season

  4. Offer him a 1 year deal on improved terms

  5. No, sadly injury prone, there are better options out there.

Not really, because now we are not tied down to a 2nd year if things go tits up with his knee.

Don't think he signed anything to be fair, Matt.

Doesn't seem like he had a say.

Totally agree … wonder who was in the driving seat representing city Sparks or Sharpe. Either way Walkers laughing.. year on top dollar for about 60% work if we are lucky. Great player but we should have severed ties and reinvented.

How ? We've excercised our option on his contract rather than given him a new one. If he breaks down next season that's it, gone in June 2025.

I still reckon he should give up fitba and take up the offer to be Francis Begbie in the remake of Trainspotting.

Can you go into more detail?

As l understand it City had an existing option to extend the Contract for another year.

    It remains one year.

There is no information to suggest that the Contract terms have been altered, so how has anyone won and someone lost?

The club have their player and the player has certainty until June 2025.

    Perhaps a win/win?

And if he breaks down next season then we arent stuck with a 32 year old, injury prone player for another year.

    Made my day that has.

So pleased that we have him for at least one more season.

Hopefully he helps lead us to promotion and signs up for league 1 with us next summer!

City always had the 1 year option and have decided to exercise it rather than release him. I would imagine we’ve tried to get him to sign a two year deal with reduced terms and more appearance based but he’s turned that down so he’ll be on same terms as before for just 1 year.

The T&A says "The Scot has been offered new terms but it would appear that a deal hasn’t yet been reached" maybe both sides have accepted the option of an extension and a deal may be struck with regards how Jamie performs.
I certainly don't what him to hold back with the aggressive side of his game. he wouldn't be the same player.

Pleased for him. Good he's staying.

That said, as we've seen over the last two seasons, we can only accommodate so many attacking players in the team who do stuff but don't create assists and goals. E.g. Gilliead runs around a lot, Smallwood breaks up play, Walker leads the press etc etc- we do need the ball in the back of the net! So, I hope he stays fit and gets 10+ goals and similar number of assists.

I don't think either side has partially won or lost in this. Unless our offered 2 year deal was significantly worse wages then he's put himself at risk in 12 months time of having to find a new club if it doesn't go well next season. What it does give us is the certainty that he's hear next season and if we want to keep negotiations going on the extra year we can do that and he won't be going anywhere so we don't need to find a replacement.
If he was signing as a new player then the year deal is probably somewhere around the middle ground of what both parties wanted.

That’s another sign of Sharpe’s influence . Left to the last couple of seasons deals and he’d have got two years minimum . Head of football ops showing his nous imho . Win for both parties .

Am I missing something? He’s probably got inflationary rate on his original deal plus appearance bonuses . It’s common sense all round and makes sound footballing sense for both parties.

That's the part that worries me. We've potentially upset and demotivated a player we fully intended on keeping.

Hopefully there's no bad feeling but this could easily bite us on the arse.

I said further back I thought a one year deal on better wages was fair to both sides. I am pleased he is staying and he reminded one and all that he contributes to the community and his family are settled. Family first.
