Jamie Walker (with Poll)

Discussion in 'City Talk' started by Silverbantam, Apr 28, 2024.

?

Are you happy with Jamie Walker remaining a City Player

  1. Yes give him a 2 year flat contract

  2. Yes give him a 2 year incentivised contract

  3. Yes extend his current contract for a season

  4. Offer him a 1 year deal on improved terms

  5. No, sadly injury prone, there are better options out there.

Why doesn't the player hold the cards?

Because we have the choice to extend his contract for 1 year on his current terms.
Granted he wants a 2 year deal and he’s rejected our offer but that doesn’t matter because can still extend it for another year.
The player could be a tw@ and go off sick injured for the entire season but I don’t think Walker is like that at all.

But, if we change the terms of the contract then I would expect the extra year option to become void. Supposedly, the offer put to him has updated terms, so he's free to look elsewhere if he so wishes.

I’d imagine so long as our new offer is as good or better than the current deal then he isn’t free to look elsewhere.

I honestly don't know that much about Kemp other than his partnership with Young. Better the devil you know?

We haven't activated the option though. If he isn't happy with what he's being offered instead, I'd imagine he can do whatever he likes if someone offers him a better deal.

The 'extended contracts' are usually a two way thing. If the player is not happy he can usually walk away, if the Club is not happy then they can say "thanks but no thanks". As far as I'm aware an extended contract offer, actually means bugger all, it has to fit both with the player and the club. But at the end of the day it depends what was written into that offer in the first place.

I'm guessing we have until June 30 to trigger an extension, after that we probably don't have the option anymore as his contract will have expired, right?

I'm not sure we'd now trigger that clause, though. We'd effectively be paying more than we think he's worth just to stop him leaving. If that was the case, Walker's agent would hold all the cards. It wouldn't be hard for Walker's agent to manufacture 'interest' to force City to pay more.

I would guess there will be no bidding war, and our offer is final.

How do we hold all the cards, we've offered him a contract that he's not bound to sign?

If he doesnt want thr new deal, trigger his 1 year option and get a fee for him.

    Simple?

I am in agreement. Kemp a better long term signing but doubtful he on our radar.

He is a L2 baller. His Swindon spell wasnt a one off.

He’s under contract for another year whether he likes it or not if we choose to trigger the extention clause, which we will.

How does that exactly work if he hasn't signed that deal for the forthcoming season??

    I'm not sure.

There's lots of hype and recency bias surrounding Kemp but neither Orient or MK seemed to try that hard to keep him.

I've also not seen much of him play so whilst I wouldn't be upset to see him replace Walker, I'm not thinking he's the automatic sensation we saw at Swindon.

Sorry for being a thick Cumbrian but, regardless of the extension, is Walker under contract or not for the forthcoming season, or has he still got a year or two left on his original contract?

The club have the option of triggering another year I presume on the same terms. It seems we have offered him a one year contract and I am assuming an increase in pay. The player wants 2 years.
