Arseholes taking advantage of elderly people who are vulnerable.

My partner’s mum is starting to struggle with her memory and sadly gets quite confused with things. About four months ago, someone came round to her house and told her that her solar panels on her roof were not compliant. To cut a long story short, she gave them a cheque for £500 as a deposit for a significant amount of work. Luckily she managed to call us after, we got the cheque stopped. She couldn’t explain what she was actually paying for and certainly doesn’t need new solar panels at her age.

This week she called my partner during the day. She was about to buy double glazing, which she already has. My girlfriend had to come out of an important meeting at work to go and sort that out because her mum had become quite distressed.

Yesterday, I went to see my folks. I was supposed to go last weekend and do their upgrade from Windows 7 but I couldn’t. My Mum decided she didn’t want to ‘trouble me’ and found a local computer expert to help. He took her computer away for three days and charged her £235 for the upgrade and transfer of data (a whopping 4gb). Totally took the piss. My folks are financially okay, but they are not rich and that was a lot of money for them.

Nothing illegal has been done but for this all to be legal just stinks.

Sounds like you've just had a bad experience, whatever is happening is probably driving you nuts and I feel for you if that's the case, I have had some treatment via the NHS, not a lot admitted but in my case I just couldn't fault them (apart from the food, which I couldn't touch), they have such a heavy load to deal with and I sincerely hope that you can find a way through whatever it is, keep talking and asking questions, they are mostly good people and i'm sure there is no better place for your mum, good luck mate...

 

Just watched ambulance on BBC. Gets on my tits that people with serious injuries that are not self inflicted have to wait in agony for hours whilst arseholes that abuse medical staff after their drink/drug or gang related injuries take priority. Utmost respect to the doctors, paramedics and general staff that deal with this carnage day in day out. They are stronger than me.

Last year I lost my wife and can honestly say the treatment she received under the NHS was first class my wife died of cancer and from diagnosis to the end nothing was too much trouble the staff we met through scans,radiotherapy,chemotherapy were excellent nothing was too much trouble we never had to hang around for appointments etc they were extremely well organized Before this I shared your view of them being " Hopeless" but this was a real eye opener for me sadly the outcome was inevitable but they did give us another 12 months together
