A few possible tall stories from Tuesday that pointon's "knock" is likely to see him missing until January. Hopefully that statement contradicts those

While I think it's obviously more than a "knock on the shoulder" as I seem to recall reading, I can't imagine it's gonna be until January unless there's gonna have to be some surgery?

I realise they want to manage bad news, and every single player that is injured and cannot play is a loss. Nevertheless we keep being given inadequate news about the injury suffered and length of time they will be out. As you say a knock on the shoulder is not serious, ie possible bruising and pain, but it would probably be about two weeks to clear completely in a fit young man. Pointon has been off a month and is still not fit. All very odd.

It's the best way to go about our injuries situation be honest with fans, even when you ask players they are liberal with the truth ;).

    Powell?
    Senior outfield player.
Taking a slot in the 22 and a wage.
    Not been impressed so far.
No comment in the above press release.
When he signed, there were no details as to the duration of the contract https://www.bradfordcityafc.com/news/2025/august/18/powell-picks-city/
If he he is on a short term deal and is injury prone, then should we conclude in January and look towards a more durable replacement?

Is this because he was on a pay as you play deal or a monthly at best. Seems strange not to say anything?

Done some more trawling. An article in the T&A on the 21/10/2025 https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/sportlatest/25558382.bradford-city-midfielder-nick-powell-hamstring-operation/
Suggests out until next year. I assume that he will then have to achieve match fitness, which given his breaks in actual playing may well be a considerable period of time.
That although the length of the contract was not disclosed, it is believed to be for one season. So not a ‘Pay as you Play’ or a monthly deal.
The big thing will be if the club has a release clause if he is unable to play for a period of time.
Really if he is not available for the beginning of January and we are still in a very good position, it may make sense to pay him off, so we could get a fit alternative.

Missing Pointon badly. His ability to unlock defenses is affecting our goalscoring and not helping us beat teams leading to us struggling to score goals

I think sometimes football clubs bend the truth on injuries because they don't want the opposition to have any knowledge of potential line-ups, but possibly also because clubs try to limit negativity due to the importance of momentum, and injury news can cause panic amongst supporters etc. Talking about our fans, we sometimes label a player 'injury prone' when it's simply not true

Building on the investigation into Nick Powell then his stats from last season are quite concerning.

A total of seven league appearances (two extra in the cup), and a total of 348 minutes on the pitch!

For comparison Antonio who missed a fair chunk of last season, played twenty four league and four cup games.

Even if he recovers from the operation, then he will have had so little game time to build true match fitness, and having a recurring injury may well impede his psychological approach to situations on the pitch.

He was injured in training just before the Barnsley game I believe so it's only been around 2 weeks.

Pointon was injured on 9th October the Thursday before we were due to play Lincoln City , so it’s just over 3 weeks.

I meant since he missed his first game but either way, hopefully he's back soon.

Yes I heard one interview with GA where he said Bobby was having difficulty running as the sore shoulder was making it hard to move his arm properly. He also said Bobby doesn't hold back in training.
This fits with what I was told by my neighbour at the Lincoln match. Apparently he picked up the injury trying to shoulder charge Kelly. Inadvisable I would have thought given relative size. I don't know how true this is, but it fits what has been said by GA

Pointon’s shoulder would have been level with Kelly’s hip.

    Only one winner.
