I'm interested in your reasoning. Which sort of away fans do you think will be deterred from going?

On a cold winters day many fans will be tempted to swap a possible difficult journey for the comfort of their own tv. I appreciate some will always travel but others will take the easy option

That's my understanding too. There are discussions within the EFL and with the clubs on how iFollow will be made available nest season. One of the sticking points of the discussion seems to be how the iFollow income from away fans is shared between the home club and the away club. It's unlikely to favour the away club as it does under the current arrangement so I've been told.

Only going by my own thoughts I come to every home game a round trip of 160 miles I actually dread the journey back on a cold winters night and would be tempted to watch on line. I think there would be a lot who would do the same for away matches

Without going through all your points I have watched every match on I player this season before that I watched it once a Tuesday night when the weather was bad. I pick and choose away games these days after years of travelling up and down the country.
Exeter Cheltenham and Newport are examples where some (not the most committed ) might decide to watch online. Nearer examples like Oldham or Bolton most people who would travel but a few wouldn’t which is why smaller clubs won’t want this adopted

Looking at the smaller clubs, then those like Salford, Morecambe, Barrow, Harrogate which are relatively local, have very limited capacity for away fans. City would sell out, with fans not able to get in and importantly those clubs could make additional revenue, if they got a share of the away i-follow gate.
You talked about Bolton who are hardly a ‘small’ club! Go up a division and the likes of Fleetwood and Accrington again would have to turn City fans away. So City fans would be deprived of watching the game and those clubs would potentially lose revenue.
I accept that a small number of fans, who would normally go to Oldham, Bolton, Scunthorpe etc would decide to watch at home, however their numbers could be more than compensated by a large number of supporters watching and paying to do so on i-follow. Personally I would choose to go to Oldham and Bolton on a Tuesday night. I am glad I didn’t go to Scunthorpe on Tuesday 9th February, to be honest I wouldn’t have done so, but a dangerous journey in the snow was avoided!
Honestly with a 260/270 mile round trip for you, would you go to the Trotters on a Tuesday evening in February? If the game was on i-Follow would you watch it?

If we are going to ensure we live in a Covid-secure world we need to allow iFollow for those who don’t want to take the risk travelling to areas where cases may be higher or who don’t want risk spreading the virus.

A much safer option is just watching from home going forward.

iFollow is the future, Just needs improving on camera and content, Now the box has been opened it will not go back, Make no mistake the big clubs are watching with interest and it may replace Sky and BT at some stage and bring televised football back in the hands of the game

What I find strange is that when I'm watching Ifollow I think, 'Oh good, we've scored', whereas if I was in the ground I'd be jumping up and shouting myself hoarse.

I think our average away following is around 1000 so I’d suggest that would decrease by around 30-50% and maybe more on long distance midweek games.

Big clubs won’t give up Sky TV money as it’s guaranteed and not based on viewing numbers

But midweek matches were available on iFollow before the pandemic hit.

You’re probably right and to add weight to my argument there have been several midweek away games that because ifollow has been an option I didn’t attend where usually I would have.

There will be little benefit to Bradford City though unless the same conditions apply as this season, which I doubt they will. Why on earth would hone clubs agree to it ?

There is no doubt that iFollow has some impact, but
I think those figures are very conservative and the increased income would probably be even greater. For example, the 908 travelling fans would probably only account for the 'loss' of around 500 iFollow passes (families/friends watching together), so iFollow sales would probably be more like 2,000 based on those travelling numbers.

What you have demonstrated is that there is an opportunity for all parties (EFL/home club/away club) to make extra money out of this. The only debate that the EFL/clubs should be having is how to split that extra money. Personally, I see little wrong with a 50/50 split after the EFL have taken their 10%. However, other splits are available.

Ryan indicated, at the Brighouse Town Q&A this week, that we should know the answer, from the EFL, in the next 4 to 6 weeks.
