Speaking of legends. Reading Parkinson in the Telegraph & Argus, reaffirms his standing as Citys greatest manager IMO. I’ve no doubts we’d be in Bolton’s position now had he stayed. The guys a winner through and through like his favourite player Darby.

Super sad. I guess he's only got about 2 years tops? Reading wikipedia about this horrible disease, says that 2 years is at best :(
I hope the club can do something as a charity raiser for this sickening disease. It would be great to get some of the players he played with together to do a charity match of some kind at VP. Definitely would be a full house raising money for a great player and a great cause.

Reminds me of Bobby Campbell as he too suffered from a serious illness that eventually took his life in one way or another.

Not wanting to highjack the terrible situation with Darby.

Its sad how some of the best get taken from us.

According to the NHS, life expectancy from diagnosis is usually between two and five years, but there are cases where people live much, much longer and where deterioration completely slows down.

Let's all hope Stephen has a good many years in retirement with his family, because you never know.

Best of luck, Stephen, stay strong!

Don't think anyone should post about life expectancy,it's bad enough without that and i hope he doesn't read it

As he is still alive, and hopefully for years to come, shouldn't it be 'honour'?

Yes he did and probably the most high profile to have been diagnosed with it. Lived an exceptionally long time with MND but he had a very slow progressive form of the illness.

    Yeah, I agree.

I can't actually edit my own post now, unfortunately, but my point was there are a lot of possibilities.

I agree the thread should be titled "how to honour a legend".

Let's honour Stephen and show our support as best we can :)

The remarkable thing about Steven Hawkin was he maintained his mental capacity whilst sadly losing other facilties.

stephen hawking was diagnosed with it in 1963 ! And had it for 55 years! until he passed away, and had full mental capacity and as we all know one of the greatest minds of the last 100 years or so...
it doesn't have to be only a few years.... all the best to Darbs and his family.

As much as I don't want to say this, but would Darby want to live like Stephen Hawking, I'm not in this situation so it's hard to say but I don't think I would.

Totally different people, whilst obviously Hawking will have suffered he at least had Science, he probably used to lose his self if theory and calculations and almost forget about what he had. Darby on the other hand is a professional athlete, his wife is, most of his friends probably are. Imagine how hard it would be stuck like that watching them run out onto the grass, thinking about something you can no longer do but are desperate to.

Whether he wants a long life or not I only hope the days he has left can be enjoyed to the maximum for him and his family.

I would echo that @WilsdenBantam@WilsdenBantam. Not only is he having to cope the prospect of this dreadful disease take its toll on his body and the life limiting possibility, he is also having to cope with his loss of his career. He probably hasn’t prepared in his mind for stopping playing, for someone who just loves being a professional football it is a terrible blow. My heart really does go out to him, no words will be able to comfort him. My only hope and wish that he can find that inner peace that sometimes comes with life changing trauma.

I think the prognosis for a young and fit guy is up to about 7 to ten years. Hopefully Stephen can do better

Stephen Warnock on 909 said Stephen Darby rang him when the news came out because he thought he would be worried - he said even though he just had a terrible diagnosis, he was thinking about how other people would be feeling.

    What a wonderful guy :heart::heart::heart:
