I dunno on numbers but get the feeling that incomings will disappoint some.

I mean some of the suggestions are comical

We do now, however, have a back line of Woods-NKP-O'Connor-Caddis with Mellor, Paudie (Jury's out) and Wood in reserve.

That's probably as good a back line as you'll find in any bottom six team.

We'll need luck with injuries obviously, particularly with regards Wood covering at LB (obvious weak spot), but if we do indeed add a centre back to bolster the numbers, we have a shot.

 

So you’d be happy to have 1 centre back in reserve with more than 1/3rd of the season left?

Unfortunately it isn't an immense piece of business if we still go down having paid a huge wage on a player that isn't ours.

It’s only an immense piece of business if we add 3-4, which we definitely need. Our centre backs are crap. We lack depth in midfield and in the case of Akpan there are question marks over consistency. We have no left wingers. We have only 2 strikers. We have severa holes and we’re in the bottom 4 for a reason.

If we don’t add a minimum of three quality players then there’s a debate to be had around whether it was good business or a daft idea to splurge 10 grand a week on Payne, when it could have funded 3 good league one players to strengthen us as a team.

 

Parker reckons we will sign 1 or 2 players, I think a forward and winger have to be the priority.

Being 'happy' is different to understanding we have less than zero money and aren't likely to be reinforcing a back line that actually contains three left backs and the totally unnecessary Riley.

If we signed another defender, I'd imagine Riley and McGowan would have both left.

 

But that’s my point. If McGowan is leaving (as expected) it leaves us with just 3 central defenders again, one of which the jury is still out on. As you say, we have plenty of full-backs (both left and right), but lack serious competition in the centre, especially if McGowan leaves.

As for “Parker reckons”.... doesn’t he still reckon Payne is leaving in January? He had tried to convince us he would be leaving regardless. I believe nothing that man prints .... unless it has been released by another source first
