It's noticeable that we got a lot more free kicks in dangerous areas when Donaldson was playing regularly. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not advocating he should be playing ahead of Cook or Rowe, but winning free kicks is one of the things he's good at.

He is brilliant at using his experience as he did again last night and for all his critics he has never let us down

Sorry if this may have passed me by, but are they still announcing the MoM at the end of the match?

Cook to start at Walsall and Rowe to start against Mansfield (maybe Cook in illegible to start against parent club?).

Anybody know that particular status for Cook?

I did say maybe but from what I have seen he has a lot of energy tracks back well he also has an eye for goal and whilst Vernham is probably a bit more direct Crankshaw seems a bit more tricky. I like Vernham as I say but a match last 90 minutes

I thought Vernham was the only one in the first half who was showing any real danger with his pace and ability, but he seemed to fade out as the game progressed. Hopefully, it's merely a fitness thing and we'll see more from him over longer periods of games.

Vernam I feel was at his most dangerous when he was central against Exeter. A few times against Cheltenham and last night he got the ball right on the touch line with very little room. I'd like to see him come inside more and get involved particularly if we are playing Rowe upfront on his own who seems to leave that central area more often than not

Still looks like a clearly skillful Academy player from the Premier who doesn't want to get his knees dirty. We've had a few over the years. Hope he proves me wrong, but he needs to learn a bit more about getting stuck in for the team at our level.

Not many on here, considering he left City in 1969.

You are correct, Selby. Charlie did miss one although not while playing for City.
Like Dubois, I too saw Charlie in the Doctors Surgery in Bingley and we had a good old natter about the old days.
He still says that he never missed a pen but I'm certain he did - but I wasn't going to argue with him!

For some reason I thought he missed one at his old club Chesterfield when we were playing them at Saltergate, but I wouldn't put money on it.

The best penalty taker I ever saw played for Avenue. Don't know if he is still alive, the last I heard, he was a guest in one of her majesty's hotels.

The best penalty taker I ever saw was Ray Stewart at West Ham in the late 70s/early 80s. Always smashed them into the top corner. Didn't matter if the keeper went the right way - they could never get to them fast enough.
I don't know if he ever missed - I never saw him do so. @Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander might know.

Yes no consideration for the traveling City fans, we could have had so much less stress, but then again when have City made it easy for fans, maybe Northampton at Wembley 3 up inside the opening 30 minutes.

To be fair to @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler, a lot of clubs who are performing well can name half their team as key reasons they're doing well; but that doesn't negate the fact that usually, if you stop the best player or two, it does have a huge impact.

Our fans will tell you our defence has been excellent lately (it has), but the second we didn't have a proper centre forward available out of Novak, Rowe and Cook (all three were out), Exeter put three past us without really looking anything special.

Anyway, good luck to you, like you say, top for a reason - some are inevitably going to look at that statement and point out the games in hand situation, but FGR just got panned at home by Southend, so I'd rather have the points in the bag than talk about ifs and buts!!

Yet we still scored 2 at Exeter. It was the other end that let us down that day, a rare bad defensive day at the office
