Think there will undoubtedly be some cards shown on saturday, with Paudie and Hanson to the fore. There will be plenty of arms flying around in mid-air. Just have to hope that in Paudie's case it is not a red one.

 

What if you have a keeper like ROD who does not seem to shout if he is coming or not? Leaving defenders to guess

Our defence haven't a clue what ROD is going to do,mainly because neither does he.

You would think at any level of the game that between games the keeper and the defenders would have a conversation about this. Maybe along the lines "look lads, crosses into the six yard box are yours because I am not going to come for them"!

 

I don’t disagree with you but is there any evidence he’s a “ not claimer” or are we guessing ?

 

Which begs the question, why have a keeper?

 

And if the flight of the ball is just over the defender so falls to an attacker?
It is not about height our defenders are 6ft 2 and 6ft 4 and our keeper is 6ft 4, if the ball is head able they win it but if the flight eludes them then it will be a free header in the 6yd area for the attacker with the keeper on his line at a distinct disadvantage, If the keeper comes he can catch, punch or usually if misses get a foul given against him if clever,

 

Or why pick or even sign a keeper who doesn't come for crosses when you are playing in league two (or league one even).

In the professional game it's called marking. We even used to do it on a Sunday now and again, especially at set pieces.

Is that man marking having a dedicated attacker as your man to mark or Zonal marking guarding an area that the attacker will run in to or even make a false run allowing a space for another attacker to make a run from deep?

 

The truth is it isn’t, but some want to make a situation out of the keepers it’s always been the case with fans it’s comfortable to have a scapegoat if you don’t win every game. No doubt the high balls into the box are our biggest weakness defensively, just as we are weak offensively from them. However we’re a league 2 team, no team even higher up is without weakness.

 

Call it whatever you want but the sheer amount of headers that attackers win in our box is unacceptable and that's not solely down to one player, regardless of how much you're protesting that it is.

 

True. It’s the defence as a whole and that depends on everyone knowing their role. If there’s any uncertainty then problems arise. Your only as strong as your weakest part, whoever that may be.

 

We're not up against world beaters in this league so let's man up and get smarter.
