Thats the point in a nutshell. 30 chances gives you increased odds at getting a goal. If you get once chance only……., , miss and you blow the only chance you had to score.

The former means you have a further 29 opportunities to score.

As you suggest both equations are pointless AFTER 90 mins, however to to start a game with those odds is what any football manager in the world desires., imho.

No debate from me Dave chances were created and if they weren't then we would be in big trouble we simply HAVE to put the ball in the net if we don't creating chances is no more advantageous than winning a thrown in
Mr Adams address in October will be very interesting but I fear it will be January before he can hopefully resolve the issues he has
Not too sure he has been "hung out to dry" tho I would be amazed even taking into account his reaction to the Robinson signing if he didn't have the final say

It seems like the manager has his own way of approaching games which he's not inclined to change. Stubbornness or patience. We're wanting things to happen straight away, he would appear to be content to build more slowly than wed perhaps like. It'll be interesting to see what's going to happen in October when hopefully a couple of players return and again January will give us an idea how he's going to progress things because it can't continue as it is with any real expectation of going up. Let's hope we're still in the mix by then. His plan might be longer term than we'd like atm

Vernam's header against Walsall, Cooks header against Salford and Vernams one on one last Saturday , I say he has good cause to suggest we take them we win the game.

I doubt at the moment there is a free agent out there who Adams could bring in to put those chances away, so it will be as you say January before he can bring some one in.
I'm in total agreement that these chances should be put away they aren't and looking at the squad I'm not sure we have anyone capable of doing that along side out main striker, unless Angol when he returns can pick up where he left off.
I say hung out to dry because we were told players would be brought in I'm not sure the likes of Laverty or Robinson were on Adams wish list, there may have been reasons his targets didn't get signed we all know until that signature goes on the contract the deal isn't done.
But with regards Turnbull leaving I believe that is directly because of the calibre of player the club brought in, as I said October will be interesting

Noble had a chance to earn a draw against Man Utd utd yesterday. He missed it. They lost.
Vernam had a chance to put us in the lead on Saturday. He missed it, we drew.

The amount of chances means nothing if you don’t take them!

Anyway I’m tired of this now. It’s an agree to disagree moment. Let’s hope on Saturday we create goals rather than chances, and then we’ll all be happy.

Time to give Lavery a start ahead of Gilliead in my opinion but I think Adams will worry that we don't retain the ball as well because Gilly is tidy even if he lacks any kind of threat but if that's the case just play Gilliead in the centre instead of Evans isn't that where he was playing last season anyway

A side issue, but relevant to getting “chances”

Personally I thought to bring a “ cold” player on to take a penalty as his fist touch of the game was the most stupid, hairbrained managerial decision I have ever seen in football at Prem level. I thought Moyes was better than that!

Southgate might have cost us the Euros doing just that

I don't know how warmed up you have to be to hit the ball once unopposed from the penalty spot but it didn't work

and didn't concede many because we had two hard threat the back.
totally agree. Can you imagine coming and your first touch being a penalty. It's utter madness.

Even the ‘best’(ish) fail to take gilt edged chances. Not taking them can be very costly!

Good point Rod, if we are steaming about Vernam missing a one on one v Barrow, resulting in a one all draw, can you imagine how much the Highbury Library were up in arms about only some of the chances they missed v us ?
