So...to start with here are a few websites. I am sure that your children's schools will have shared some of these already, but hopefully some will be of use. All can be used via tablets
Mathematics
Top Marks
Free website - good for basic maths, times tables etc
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/counting
Mathletics
Good for children to practise their maths knowledge at all levels. This is about £11 a month. You can get a free trial for a couple of days to test it out. I suspect, if you try it and don't take it up immediately, they will offer a discounted price.
https://www.mathletics.com/uk/for-home/free-trial/
Reading
There are a few decent free sites out there
Read Theory - Good for comprehension - allows you track progress as the children read short pieces and then answer questions
https://readtheory.org/app/sign-up/role
Oxford Owls - has lots of e-books on there, but stuff kids want to read from recognised authors
https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/
Spelling and Grammar
Spag.com - This site does cost quite a bit: £35 for 12 licenses but you could share it out between a few families. Really good for testing progress on spelling and grammar.
https://www.spag.com/
SATS papers
You can get copies of old SATs paper here
https://www.satspapers.org.uk/
Twinkl
Great resource with thousands of different activities. Not just worksheets, but also presentations to explain the learning. They are offering free packs for learning for people who are at home with children.

BBC website
BBC bitesize - has lots of information across all the topics
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize
Finally, apparently Joe Wicks will be doing a PE lesson at 9am Monday to Friday on YouTube. No idea on the content, but could be a bit of fun and good to get a bit of exercise.
If anyone needs help with anything specific (apart from trying to get the little blighters to do some work) then feel free to contact me.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...ConnecticutBantam, Skyebantam, Fordy117 and 3 others like this. -
Thanks - that’s really good of you.
Mine has been issued tailored educational packs that last 4 weeks - and we’ve been told further packs will be issued as necessary.
Hopefully parents will use this opportunity to carry on with their kids education, but sadly i can see that a large number of kids will be thrown in front of a TV to binge on NetflixStop hovering to collapse... A website I use is:
www.mathsframe.co.uk
A good selection of free games easily differentiated by year group. There are more games available if you pay a bit but the free ones are also great and many have related worksheets that you can print out.
I've found that some of the games on Topmarks maths are not tablet friendly but all of these are I think.
Another idea is for kids to keep a digital daily journal of events. Depending on their age these can be as varied as a picture, words or a couple of sentences right up to screenshots of headlines and audio clips of our glorious leaders. Will be very interesting to look back on in years to come.
A dedicated time for reading each day is brilliant.
The weather is improving so getting out into the garden or outside space is vital. Grow some simple food in the garden or in pots.
Cooking, baking, following recipes.
Sing songs, dance. Relax. There's a great series of videos on YouTube called Cosmic Yoga.
Play board / card games together.
If you're working from home I appreciate it's going to be very difficult to balance 'teaching' your kids and working. You will find though that most of these activities will be familiar to the children and if they're timetabled they'll be able to get on with them quite independently and sensibly especially when it becomes routine.
Don't try to do too much. 1 reading, 1 maths, 1 writing / typing job per day as a suggested minimum for most children plus 1 maybe 2 of the other ideas suggested is adequate for primary kids . Try to do the more academic things in the morning when they're most awake and alert.
Be strict about tv, laptop, tablet, phone time etc during what would be a school day within reason. Use it as a dangled carrot for completed tasks.
If you don't have technology, pens, rubbers, pencils, dice , paper etc tell your school tomorrow. Don't be embarrassed, you're not alone. They should send you it. If your child is entitled to free school meals find out how these will be delivered or collected, you need them.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Remember all that this is going to be really hard for the kids. Home is home and school is school and they're going to struggle with the juxtaposition. This might help a few of you who are home schooling...
Twinkl website is putting up a daily set of timetabled work for every age range from 5 to 16. They are also giving free premium level access to their resources if you follow this link and use the code : UKTWINKLHELPS
www.twinkl.co.uk/offer
Most of the activities should be viewable from a tablet or computer, so should not need to print anything out. If you are using a tablet that does not have the capability to unzip files, you might need to use a pc first and then transfer the documents to your chosen device.
My daughter and her friends have worked on the guided reading together today and really enjoyed it.
Let me know if you need any help with this.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Bronco and Hoochy-Min like this. -
