Surely now the EFL need to tell Grimsby to get on with it and fulfill their fixtures next week?

Yes. At the moment Grimsby have said the game is off but it is the EFL who actually sanction it being called off. This all comes down to Grimsby not wanting to pay for the necessary testing.

If an individual club calls off the game without it being sanctioned by the EFL, they're essentially forfeiting the game? Surely? Could be our best way to get 3 points this season!!

difficult one this.. as there have now been two additional CV19+ results in their playing squad, there may be further asymptomatic carriers. with the incubation period being anything between 1-11 days it would surprise me to see further positive from either club after today. just hope this doesn't come round to bite us in the next week or so.

City won’t catch it off Stevenage, we never get close enough to any opposition players. We have social distancing off to a fine art.

Well done to Stevenage for going about this the right way.

The EFL need to clarify the procedures though. I get if there's an outbreak like at Orient that the games have to be called off but if only a couple of players are positive then it doesn't make sense to postpone the game.

Is it as simple as that Grimsby can't or won't pay for Covid-19 tests and stevenage will?

I suspect they don't want to pay for it or they can't afford it and have covered it up to their fans by saying they were advised against doing so. Maybe would've got away with it if Stevenage and Plymouth hadn't been give the all clear to play.

Wouldn't shock me that some clubs are now wanting for the season to end due to no fans coming back any day soon.

They'll then try to get handouts to cover the cost of the season.

The EFL have to put measures in place now because we can't be having games just being called off or not knowing whats going on less than 24 hours before a game.

I'm not sure tbh. As we have seen with Zlatan testing isn’t all that accurate. He tested negative on a test one day, positive the next despite having limited contact with others.

Or look at tennis. At the US Open Paire tested negative one day. Despite not going outside the bubble he tested positive the next. A few days later he tested negative again. He then went over to play in Hamburg, tested negative one day, positive the next. He has now a few days later tested negative for the French Open.

So you have to wonder if 3 have failed what in reality is the actual number? And does not playing it safe risk now infecting city and making the situation across the league worse.

It’s certainly not as obvious choice as some would make out as you would think if it became a wide scale problem that’s the league done so calling off a few matches might be the safer option if they want the league to ultimately be completed

the thing with Zlatan is he may have caught it the day of test one and still tested negative if it wasn’t fully in his system. This is why a negative test doesn’t mean people can leave quarantine or isolation. They need to stay the full 14 days.

A negative test isn’t a guarantee that you don’t have it, they have always said that. You would need a number of negatives with no contact with anyone between them all to be sure you were totally clear

Thats my point though about it being unreliable. By all accounts it can take upto 3 weeks to have enough antibodies to test positive and some people (like the tennis player Paire) can actually be so borderline when it comes to testing positive that things like very minor differences in the application of the test can change the outcome. There could be multiple ones in the Stevenage squad today with it who now infect city players

Good interview with Ryan Sparks on Radio Leeds just now.

Ryan really annoyed at how Stevenage and Grimsby have gone about communication, or lack of it directly with City, about the 2 respective games coming up.

Ryan has stated that as far as he is concerned the Grimsby matches still on until he hears otherwise from the EFL. He said it is not the decision of Grimsby's chairman to postpone the match

Well done Ryan for his stance and the open interview

Same could be said about everyone everytime they leave home.

Hopefully our players shouldn’t be standing within close proximity for long periods of time to theirs though.

That's blood antibody testing in a lab. It takes too long to develop antibodies at 2-3 weeks and they fade, too, so you can test negative again after a couple of months. There's also quick blood testing where they treat a drop of blood on a testing strip with three bars but apparently that gives false positives for other cold bugs so it seems to have mostly been dropped. You could not use either of them in football. Football is using PCR/swab testing which misses around 30% of infections as false negatives, though that varies depending on how long you have had the virus. It also has 1% false positives. That's why they usually test a positive again to confirm it's not false.
