Patrick was pony. Absolutely dire as he always has been. I think he dribbled past his man successfully once and forgot the ball behind himself countless other times. If it wasn't for pace he wouldn't be a footballer, he's got nothing else.

 

Maybe some kind of relation or illicit lovechild. I’d be asking for a dna test. You might get a Mercedes out of it

 

I'm hoping the one up front formation was employed simply to get game time in players. Both doyle and Vaughan looked isolated in that role, and Donaldson spent more time at right back than Henley did

 

Maybe an offshoot of the days when quick powerful kids were picked up hoping they could work on the rest

 

Just observations on the day. I said Scannell didn't create much, but he did indeed provide the cross for the goal. Henley got knocked off the ball too easily for me and looked much more like a winger than a fullback. That's what I thought based on today's match which is what we are discussing. We all know it's only the first run out. No one's drawing any definitive conclusions from today, we're just saying what we thought. What's wrong with that? Why do you have to have a go at people for no reason?

 

I think his point is that talking about a player having a 'stinker', in what is basically an early kickabout to get some playing miles in the legs, is a pretty extreme overreaction.

 

Normally I would agree, however it's a case of poor players continuing their poor form and performances over into this season so I think its a valid observation.

 

If we start the season with Vaughan, Doyle and Donaldson it will be disappointing if one plays up front by themselves but equally, I get your point on the game time. Will we play three in midfield?

 

Are we good enough for 5-3-2 with wing backs? Have we a full back good enough to try it with?

He has 4 weeks to work with it and I'm sure he has his ideas but if those 3 are available I'm hoping it's a variable 2 from them 3 rather than one with scannel and mccarten wide or playing in behind
