It common knowledge that they are available, apart from Robinson, wasn’t a queue of scouts at Guiseley watching them.

 

That’s why Bowyer said post match that is going to take several transfer windows before he is able the call his squad his own.

 

I must say I'm prepared to change my mind about some of the so-called toxic players we still have with us. Thinking about it logically I don't know anything at all about AOC or Riley or Akpan or anyone else, and neither, I think, does anyone else. I set no store by the captain's armband episode, which was a piece of nonsense to me, and I don't think I'm being fair to them if I base my opinion on rumour and conjecture. Based on what I actually saw there were times last year when AOC seemed to be giving his all for the team and he looked pretty proficient yesterday. Riley, too, looked like he was really up for it and, based on yesterday, I'd rather have him at right back than Henley. I know there's no smoke without fire but perhaps we should all acknowledge that so much went on last year that we don't know about that it's best that we all draw a line under it, stop judging players on anything other than their performances on the field and trust the judgement of our manager who knows far more about them than we ever will.

Sounds a sensible approach, but I have real reservations about certain players. They have history, like it or not, and it will take a lot to undo the damage some have done to their own reputations.

If Bowyer can manage them sufficiently that they have no negative impact on the squad, great, but riddled apples can always spoil a whole barrell.

 

I respect your opinion but I ask myself what we actually know as fact and what rumour and hearsay. What do we actually know about these players and what they have done or said? I would suggest not a lot. And anyway they're just young kids (to me anyway) and how many of us have done and said things at their age we subsequently regretted? All my children are much older than any of our players and I forgive them a lot based on their lack of experience of the world. Time to cut them a bit of slack I think.

 

I appreciate what you're saying and I'd like to forget about last season too, but do you think it's a coincidence that AOC pretty much had a witch hunt out for him at Aberdeen then the same sort of feeling at City?

 

But we don't know the reason for that, well I don't anyway. To be honest, the only thing I care about is how he affects our results. If he plays well I don't really care about much else unless he has a severe character flaw which affects the rest of the team in which case get rid. But I simply suggest that no one on here knows a thing about that.

 

But he affected our results last season I'm sure of it, it's not like this is the first club he's had issues at.

 

That's my point. How are you sure of it? Give me some evidence and I'll believe you. I've come to realise that many of my opinions are based on what others have said. At my age I should have known better.

 

On a completely different tack I thought of Donaldson as a big target man and I note on wikipedia he's given as 6'1". Well, I walked past him as I left the ground yesterday and was very surprised by how not big he seemed. But then footballers are all a lot smaller and lighter than they seem on the pitch. At his prime Gordon Strachan weighed less than 10 stone. Alan Clarke 10 stone 8 pounds. Drogba, seemingly a big beast, weighed about 13 stone I think. Anyway, I'm 6'1" and he's smaller than me. A bit quicker though. Having said that Richards-Everton looks a right monster. Hope he can play football.

 

To me his half arsed attitude throughout the season gave it away. I try to ignore other peoples views till I've seen something I dislike myself and I disregarded what Aberdeen fans said. But after the season gone I don't particularly want him here regardless if he has a good season, I don't think he's good for the club but that is just my opinion.

Fair enough if you're basing your opinion on what you've seen on the pitch.

 

Perhaps because they don't want to leave now that we have a decent manager and a professional setup, instead of last season's amateur hour?

 

This is a friendly to the try out the players, I thought Patricks run and pass resulted in a goal? We have lacked speed particularly on the left. I know lots of people don't like him but I hope that our new manager will help him develop his game. negative reports by 'fans' can't be helpful to our team. As any good manager of any business will tell you your success is ensuring your staff can fully develop with your help.

As you say we dont know the reason with regards the situation at Aberdeen, I thought when he made his comments in the T&A with regards his team mates it was a mistake, IMO if you are going to make those kind of comments you have to be seen to be consistantly one of the better performers week in week out and unfortunatly he wasn't.
Once we get nearer to the Cambridge home game Bowyer will know which players are up for the challenge and who might not be quite there, I believe O'Connor will be one of the former, lets hope now the slate is wiped clean so are the others who we doubted last season.
