Has anything been decided re Pulse coverage next season or have I missed it...?

 

People read far far too much into pre season games.

Just glad no injuries.

 

To be fair to him it seemed as though we were playing 4-5-1 much of the time with Donalson on the right. Couldn't understand that. I still thought he was poor though, and I thought he was disappointing last year.

 

Sykes-Kenworthy on trial for Guiseley today.

Indeed but there were no parking regulations etc. No yellow lines nor any signage.

They should appeal then. Easy win if what you have said is correct

Today was just about getting every player 45 minutes so there was always going to be some out of position and wouldn't read anything into it. We didn't have a left back in the squad so had to play Riley and Staunton slightly out of position, whoever played left back would have been out of position. Same with Scannell playing on the left, we don't have a left footed winger so had to play him on the other side where i don't think we'll see him playing.
As it's only a friendly any slight knock or tightness was never going to be risked which was why some changes were made. If it had have been a league game the like of Paudi O'Connor and Longridge would probably have played so Mellor can go to right back and Longridge plays left back

 

I agree it's about fitness but interesting then that Devine gets a right back slot (while we don't know if that's his position) and Riley gets left back.

 

I thought Riley had a decent game today. Very attacking style. Should have scored as well.

 

Think this was because Longridge, Wood and Paudie were out.

 

I'm guessing it was to do with combinations, in the first half with French playing the left sided centre back Riley gave him a bit more protection than a really out of position Devine would have done especially with young Staunton being the other left back option. It was probably the best option available to move them both to their 2nd choice position rather than keep Riley in his normal position and Devine not only in his unnatrual position but also on the wrong side

 

I havent seen Guiseley since last seasons friendly but on the evidence they are in for another difficult campaign. Unrecognisble from the Bower led days of ascendancy ? This Bignot assembled group look physical with limited footballing prowess ?

For our part pleasing to get some game time and see what we are about ? In contrast to last seasons total shambles pre-season this at least looks organised.

We seem to have a large squad ? I was reasonably impressed with Regan Booty the ex-Hudds trialist. He looked a bit out of shape but he certainly had a lot of the ball first half. Left footed he has a good passing range and most of the game he was busy and rarely failed with a pass. Whether hes the answer to our lack of a midfield leader ??. The lad in the second half Fawns scored but was no where near the quality. He looked well short on fitness ? But not suprising he was at Altrincham last season.

The Don got off the mark in the first half with a goal set up by Scannell. Like to think there will be more than a few of those this season !
Doyle must have felt a bit of weight off his shoulders with Clayton alongside. However he didnt seem to take much advantage from it ?. Vaughan and Patrick replaced the pair second half. Patrick was mostly out on the left at times falling over his own feet ? Whilst Vaughan was up front on his own always looking to get through on goal. Expect Vaughny to more than worry a few defences
Bowyer will need to decide ? Is Doyle the regular pick with Vaughny and the Don switching to keep them fit ? Or does he go with our two big guns and Doyle the filler in ?
Not a bad choice in League 2.

Defensively AO'C and French dealt with the Guiseley forwards robustly. AO'C particularly while French looked steady and decent on the ball. It was A O'C winning the airel duals. Second half Mellor and Richards-Liverpool dominated as Guseley bizarrely played 5ft 6 Scotty Smith upfront against them ?

So all in all a fair enough run out and a darn sight more pleasing show than this time last season. Footnote: the new fitness guy actually looks like he is a fitness coach and will put the players through their paces. Allied to Bowyers school teacher like guidance on and off the park. At least we look we might well pass the test rather than last season when we were failing from day one !

 

Really don't have any hope for Akpan, Patrick and Gibson.

Akpan and Patrick won't get any better. They are limited by either mentality or ability. Gibson, same crap: looks promising, tries to do too much, thinks he's good when he's really bang average even at reserve level.

Worried by the reviews for Doyle and Scannell. Two huge players, but very ineffective as City players so far. Huge improvements required from both. Two more coasters?

Oh, and bless the three or four posters clinging desperately to the idea Doyle works hard. Cuties!

 

That's the issue with Gibson, he's got ability but clearly lacks the mental attributes to succeed in the professional game.

Doyle and Scannell had decent games, Scannell more so, nothing to be concerned about with that.

 

He needs a season long loan does Gibson.

No impact on loan in League Two last season, so Conference would be about right.

He is wasting his time here, he isn't good enough, and it's not about getting chances, it's about being a professional footballer and understanding the game and your own abilities and limitations, all of which he seems clueless about.

Another exasperated kid who just doesn't get why he isn't playing regular football. A sports psychologist might help.

 

It's no surprise him and Riley are best mates.
