The Boro striker, Ashley Fletcher, is from Keighley. Signed for Bolton at 9, then moved to Man Utd.

I've made a team on fifa purely from players who were born in Bradford/Keighley, and some surrounding areas like Dewsbury. Unbelievable the talent that has come through tbh

My lad plays u7 football and their is scouts at most games that he plays in from many of the northern big clubs man Utd man city Liverpool Everton etc they just pick up as many as kids as they can then reject 99% before they get to 13/14

You do realise even if we had spotted him etc in today's day and age someone of that quality would not have made it to our first team. They would have been snapped up for peanuts. Our only hope is for someone to go under the radar and be a late developer

A certain Jacob Butterfield was at Man Utd's academy for many years.

So we may expect Mason Greenwood playing for us in League Two 2027/28 (T.I.C)

As I have said numerous times, I coach at Queensbury and we have had Man City, Man Utd, Sheffield Utd, Blackburn, Burnley etc at our club looking at our youngest players and they come up at least twice every six months or so. They can afford many scouts to go around the club's in our area. BCFC had a night at @ Apperley Bridge and basically asked for us grassroots coaches to get in touch with them if we thought they would be good enough as they didn't have many scouts!! I have referred a few as a City fan but the scout only came up as he went to school with another of our coaches. There is no way we can compete at all. Had a kid who went to BCFC, SUFC and MCFC and unsurprisingly signed for MCFC after going around their facilities.....

Another one ! Fabian Delph the nephew of former City Women's Paula Delph. Recall her bringing him along on a Sunday to watch City Women. He used to do keepy uppy on the touchline sat down feet - shoulder- head and rarely lost the ball. I said then hes a player what happened? Plays for the Premier League Champions and England. If City had harnessed half the talent passing through we might still be looking at playing the team in Red in Manchester next season and I don't mean the pub team from a back street in blooming Salford !

You do realise Bradford didn't and will never have a chance of harnessing any of that talent a young age. Even most of the ones that do get a start at first team aren't good enough, the likes of Ashley Fletcher who has been mentioned already. Its why teams like Brentford have done away with their academy, it was losing them £2 million a year with no real success. Best you can hope is that of the thousands of youngsters that don't make it, a potential talent might slip through the net, one that still hasn't reached his potential for one reason or another. Either that or you speculate on players like Peterborough and we ain't gonna do that.

I've said this before but we can't compete against the teams on the M62. As bad as it sounds the reality is we're very bottom of a big pile.

That is the unfortunate truth. We are a club that will require serious investment across the board. We have potential to be a vibrant club given our fan base. Nevertheless, we do not have an owner who is interested in investing any more money. Investment might be stretching it, it will require money for the foreseeable future without any return.

Therefore our previous exploits in the PL, cup runs and promotion candidates, need to be put aside. It feels very much like the mess we were in when we were in admin. The only prospective buyer that could start a full rebuild is a fan to be honest, normal investors require a projection of profit or return, we can’t guarantee that. A labour of love if you will.

When his name was originally brought up and was quoted by Clayton Blackmore he was the best prospect he'd seen at his age.
With me being a Wibsey lad I asked around guys I know in junior football and my grandson and his mates as he is the same age as Mason and might have gone to the same school.
Nobody knew about the kid so you can only assume Manchester United got him tied up with regards football at a very early age.

The thing is even if you could it's probably better all round that you don't. Sport is now so science-based that the likes of Vardy who worked from non-league to champions league have got increasingly harder to the point it's almost non-existent. If you don't get the right football education early on the chance of making a living out of football in the future diminishes massively and when you get outside of at least the Championship if not the Premiership the resources just aren't there to provide that at the right level. They get a higher level of training early on and are having to compete against some of the best players in their age group for game time and to get academy papers at 16 that it makes them better players than they would be elsewhere. And even if they don't make it at the top club they are better equipped to make it lower down. So you have a chance of picking up players who didn't make it but have had good training behind them so a solid base to make them into lower level player for much less money than training them from say 8

There is also the education outside of football aspect. While most aren't at Man City's levels where they pay private tuition at a private school but most PL teams do have agreements with the best state schools in the area that ensures a place for their players (in exchange for a hefty donation which helps improve the school for everyone) so they also get a good education if they don't make it as footballers. As you go down the league's clubs don't have the money to be able to make such donations to ensure their academy players are in a good school and certainly not enough to really help the school get even better. Those who get cut from most PL teams now even if its before the age of 16 are much more likely to be able to make a good life for themselves outside of football and these days clubs pay real attention to school performance and not just ignore it like they would decades ago

Bang on, there's a clamour on here for invest into youth and training but investment should be used where necessary and it should be proportionate to the level the football club is at.

Any others from your club gone on to make it?

I know a lot of scouts attend the local summer football tournaments. If anyone has a child that has a bit of ability, this could be the best way to get spotted. Enter them into as many as you can.

kind of glad he did make it as you could argue a lot of enjoyment was taken from his childhood after being snapped up so young

Yes you can kind of see the clubs point not allowing them to play school football etc, it's similar with the Rugby lads who make it they cant play with their mates in games, when they should be enjoying their youth.
