Whilst it is regrettable that any horse is injured, or worse, same as any jockey that takes the risk, gets badly injured, I’m always intrigued as to how many of those condemning it for animal cruelty can look at their own lifestyle from a position of being cruelty free? Not many is my guess. That’s not to say you can’t have concern about it whilst tucking into a burger, i just find it am interesting stance tbh. Only the vegans can really claim high ground, and i bet they don’t want to associate with ‘that lot’ either, after all they get more abuse and are viewed with more suspicion, almost like they are a massive threat to the world. At times :brig:

Of all the species in the world only the Human Being kills and makes animals lame for sport and the fun of it, No animal does this they only kill for food and to survive, Humans kill for sport and entertainment as well as food

    2 bets today.

Rock The Kasbah, as mentioned before.

And this morning, I’m drawn to the Scottish National winner, Joe Farrell, at nice odds.

Ok. So do you eat meat? Just interested given how strongly you feel about cruelty? After all, humans don’t have to eat it to survive, you can get by easy enough. If not, you’re making animals suffer purely for additional needs? Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with people that eat meat, same as i don’t with vegans. I just think to take this stance you need to have a pretty water tight cruelty free lifestyle yourself, which maybe you do.

Anyway, fingers crossed all horses in all the races and all jockeys get round safely.

An average of nearly 200 horses die on race tracks across Britain every year, racing needs to give horse welfare more priority, especially for the Grand National.”

Trevor do you protest that a chicken walks around knee deep in its own shit in a cramped pen unable to move, or do you gladly just go into morrisons and pay a fiver for its breasts?

If its the former i apologise but if its the latter then you are being a tad hypocritical

We have strict rules on animal health care for the rearing of animals for food production and yes in some areas could be improved, But these horses are bred for sport and the fact they are killed on a regular basis for entertainment is wrong, The fences could be much lower and the amount of runners cut to help stop the carnage but as usual money comes first and the animals will keep on dying at a rate of 200 a year.

BTW I always buy free range produced food food

I would say that owing to the amount of money involved in the sport, 95% of racehorses enjoy a better quality of life than any other animal in the world

You just let someone dispatch your food on your behalf, you mean. Like most people. Have a tricky time reconciling this against your animal cruelty stance. Just go vegan Trev, I reckon you could do it.

Fwiw, I wouldn’t have an issue with further change in the stature of the fences. Unfortunately though there will always be a risk to horses and riders whatever, i mean some horses fall at hurdles, so it’s not purely down to fence size. Some horses are injured fatally on the flat too, ok not as many but it is hard to negate all risk in horse racing. Maybe you’d therefore advocate a complete racing ban.
