I thought the comments were based on his injury record AT Gillingham , I didn’t include Charlton or Mansfield. Why should that be a pointer to the reply that he was injury prone AT Gills , just because a kid on the Gills forum says so when clearly he was the absolute opposite. Cooks record is exemplary but irrelevant to the question posed .

That’s says his absence for whatever reason, rested, dropped, suspended etc has reduced AT Gills rather than increased doesn’t it? Of course there is a tin pot cup cross over in the appearances but these tend to be filled by fringe players anyway so players are rested.

We can do facts to death but the tendency in these details say he’s the opposite of injury prone , just like the myth Pattison had at Harrogate , because a faceless poster said he was injury prone.

 

I don’t think he will get us promoted, I have no idea. He left Mansfield because Gills were chucking money at Mansfield players BB. Didn’t they lure 3 of them and out bid the Stags on wages ( Just like Williams) ? He had to be replaced so Mansfield had no option , Hawkins was one of the others , can’t recall the other. So yes once joining Gills under multiple managers, decent players have tended to do nothing. That was the point. Will he get us promoted …….No idea, neither has anyone else, one way or the other. Hope that clarifies.

 

I think the point being made is that appearances can be misleading. Yes he's made 75 league appearances for Gillingham, but has only played a total of 3565 minutes. That works out at an average of 47 minutes per game or alternatively, would work out at 39 full games if he'd played the full 90 minutes.

 

If he played and selected he was “fit” , nobody knows why he was removed, came on as a sub , yes it could be injury, yes it could be tactical, yes it could be anything. I won’t nor can’t speculate, as I repeatedly say, stats can be used in multiple ways. At the end of the day we will see as time pans out. Did you see the bit about us trying to buy him in the summer of 24?. I wonder if it was surrounding the “ Walker” issue?

Play off appearance perhaps? Didnt Mansfield reach the play offs the season before they got promoted. PV beat em 3-0?

 

We can speculate that if he was performing well, scoring goals, and creating assists that he wouldn't have been substituted early in games or left on the bench.

And what ever is said in a interview will always be pulled apart! What I've learned is the constant whingers on here are luckily not a fair reflection on the majority on fans that attend games.

Just give the lad a chance. Instantly when the signing happened we had posters going on their forum to try find bad comments to happily post on here.

I fully accept your analysis. However, you under estimate the lack of trust fans have in the management of the club. I always will allow a new player to bed into the team and play, you never know they can’t be wrong all of the time. I wish him nothing but luck (injuries absent) and a good time at our club.

If the club aren't looking to drive us straight to automatic promotion by making some 'push the boat out' signings now then we never will.
It's the best chance we've had since relegation.

Not sure anyone has read this, but the reviews of Lapslie are almost bizarrely in synch.

No one says he's a poor player, but looks like his effect on the ball was quite limited at Gillo, and his strength was making runs into the area and his work off the ball.

I'm really not sure if that suits us or not - it apparently did not suit Gillingham or Neil Harris, but we're a direct side and maybe the idea is stick with those long diagonal balls to the wing back and have Lapslie busting a gut to join Cook getting on the end of crosses?

In any event, he sounds like a specialist rather than an all rounder. I would like to assume we know what Gillingham fans know, but that's not an easy assumption given some of our poorer signings.

But they are so clear about what kind of player he is, surely we know that and have a role for him? Maybe he will challenge Pattison for his spot? The worry is he becomes a passenger or luxury player.

 

We can, it’s all speculation , as I said earlier we don’t know the level of detail.

 

If I'm included in that, I'm more than happy to give this lad a chance. He looked decent at Mansfield and while he doesn't look like he'll massively improve us from the off he should be a decent option that benefits the squad in the long run.
