    Sad news.

I am sure some on here will recall that Frank's sister, Julie, worked for Bradford City at one time.

I remember Julie telling me how Frank would get loads of mail requesting autographs and how the family would share out the job of signing those autographs.

    Here's Julie's "Frankie":

One of my first dates, with my now partner of nearly eighteen years, ended up in Sam's Chop House in central Manchester.

There was a Manchester City supporters club event on, with Frank Worthington as the guest. We managed to sneak in and listen to him, he was terrific. Great stories.

    RIP.

Wow, is the ref clapping on his way back to half way? Looks that way, mind you, doesn't matter who you support, that is one hell of a goal.

Certainly a character and a damn good footballer.

He was the guest ex player/personality at a home game v Rotherham some years ago and did a cut of his sportsmans dinner routine prior to the game. Very funny. Approachable and quite open and honest with his half time and full time assessment. Game ended 0-0 from memory.

Frank wasn't only a very talented and skilful player he also comes from an era when footballers had personalities. There was no social media in those days so if a player got up to anything off the field it ended up in the News of the World.

I remember an England International who played with Frank at Leicester City called Keith Weller. We had a particularly cold spell and Leicester were on Match of the Day and Keith Weller was wearing a pair of women's white tights.
Well Frank Worthington was on the radio several years ago and he told the story. He said I can tell you now as Keith and his wife are no longer together. Apparently Keith's wife found them in his car and he had to quickly come up with a story. So he said due to the cold weather he had bought them to keep his hamstrings warm during training and games which meant he then had to back this story up by wearing them on the Saturday. He didn't say if she found any knickers as well!

I always assumed the cross dressing was due to his early career at Spuds & Millwall

I am afraid that I have to confess to attending Bellend Road to tell you this true story. There was an article about Peter Shilton's playing "away" in the News of the World. His wife asked him why he was late getting home and coming to bed, to which he replied "I went for a drive to the woods to take the dog for a walk". I don't know if she believed him.
The following Saturday he was warming up before a game at Leeds and the kop starting chanting "Peter Shilton shags Alsations na na na na....."
