Played Oasis - Definitely Maybe - yesterday in the car and remembered listening to it the first time and marvelling at such a brilliant debut album. I think it has stood the test of time very well and got me thinking about other brilliant debut albums that became classics.

Probably my other 2 favourites would be

Guns n Roses- Appetite for Destruction
    Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

What's your favourite debut albums all you music fans out there?

I don't think I've ever listened to Iron Maiden's debut album. I came on board with them when Bruce Dickinson joined.

Love Metallica, but their debut album is one I keep overlooking, must dig it out and play again

I was the same with Maiden. I got into them with Number of the Beast. My Dad used to take me into the Merrion Centre in Leeds where there was a really cheap record shop. Picked up Iron Maiden and Killers there.

Kill Em All is pretty rough in comparison to how they progressed, but the sheer energy is astounding. Great album.

Forgotten Rebels - In Love With the System
    John Foxx - Metamatic
    John Foxx/Ultravox! - Ultravox!

Went to film about Conny Plank recently, produced and directed by his son. He was talking about Ultravox coming out to Germany, living with them for a few weeks while Vienna and the rest of that album was being produced. The Eurythmics came out the following year. As his son said, that was pretty cool as an 11 year old.

Saw Maiden at Leeds Uni in 79 or 80 with Paul Di Anno....just was blown away, shame his voice wasn't up to the live stuff. Preferred him to Dickenson although I liked him with Samson.
Stiff Little Fingers a good shout too.
Never Mind the Bollocks was a sledgehammer first given the time it came out.

Much as I love Astral Weeks, it wasn't a debut album

Vienna the LP I like; it probably should also be on my list given how many times I've listened to it over the years -- and given the dramatic change in the band it really is another "debut" LP!. Vienna the song I'm less keen on; it just seems a bit too overblown/overwrought to me. I regret that I never saw the Foxx-led Ultravox, but did get the Ure-led version on the Vienna tour. They played a few of the old songs too, including the raucous version of Hiroshima Mon Amour.

Two more that should have been on my original list (it is indeed a long one!):

The Fall - Live at the Witch Trials
Modern English - Mesh and Lace (much darker, edgier, and to me more interesting than their later phases)
