Until the three governing bodies get their heads together and get their act together to come up with a football-wide solution, they make it easy for DCMS to pay lip service to helping the sector.

Yes, things are certainly tight for many clubs, especially in the EFL. But if I was the Govt, I'd be saying you guys take around £2bn of cash from TV companies every season and how you share it out is a matter for yourselves. We the Govt won't be putting taxpayers cash into your industry until you show some willing to sort yourselves out and help each other.

Pleading a special case or worse, holding the beging bowl out, deserves to get short shrift imo.

    I fully disagree.

Football is nothing without fans and most clubs including ours have spent a fortune doing what was required. The government then said October 1st but pulled that away and we are talking 6 months. 6 months without the a revenue stream which is the fans.

This just isn't about having fans. It's about the amount of money fans generate on a match day for the local community that's not going to happen. It's about the government supporting other industries but not sport when it needs help.

The government needs to come up with other answers if it really isn't going to allow fans in for 6 months.

You've missed the point entirely. All the football sector is doing at the moment is to enable the Govt to ignore their requests for help. Until the three bodies speak with one voice and agree to do things collectively in support of the footballing pyramid, the Govt will continue to ignore the special pleading.

Politicians are more than adept at kicking the football into the long grass and leaving it there!

If the Premier League won't help, then something similar the Small Breweries Relief might be a way forward for the government. It's basically a Robin Hood tax.

Cases have stopped rising in the majority of English regions now as have hospitalisations and deaths overall (but not Scotland). Can we go back to doing test crowds for football please?

The three bodies are talking to the government but it needs more pressure.

I fully agree with your last sentence and that's what the government have tried to do since April.

Maybe, fans need to start getting involved in putting pressure on also.

Something that doesn't seem to have been mentioned anywhere.
Doesn't FIFA have a $1bn cash reserve? I remember Sepp Blatter being questioned about how a charitable organisation could hold such a massive reserve. Well, now would be the perfect time for them to spend it. They could do a global bail out to keep the major football league pyramids afloat and still have plenty of cash left over.
They must be doing something surely? Then again though, FIFA...

It didn't mean nothing with the 'lets scare the sh*t out of everyone again' graphs that were presented last week. Doubling EVERY 7 days, wasn't that the call?

    No

it does annoy me that there’s this default concept In all areas of life that the rich should dig deep and help the poor.

"He said: ‘If the Premier League can do their bit to enhance the chances of other teams surviving possibly they may step in but does that mean every hedge-fund manager who is incredibly successful does that — filter down to the hedge-fund managers who are not so successful? Does it filter down from the restaurants, so the ones who are surviving can look after the ones who are not surviving?"

It's not a good point at all. How many other industries are regulated monopolies with salary and worker number caps that collectively negotiate their main revenue source with broadcasters and then decide how it is distributed between themselves? Certainly not hedge funds and restaurants. Formula 1 maybe?

On saying that we are quite capable of handing points down to teams worse off than us...!!

I mean fair play to the clubs that do this but you've really got to laugh at what a farce this has become.

Do McDonalds need to spend more than £93m on any one restaurant?

If they did, they would probably consider putting more money into struggling franchise restaurants, yes.

The £93m is the amount that Man Utd offered but was rejected for Sancho.

    Absolutely.

    Ludicrous.

I'll let @SimonW@SimonW answer that one but it's not as straight forward as you think.
