I'm not interested in legalities and I don't believe the club would either. It's about principle and treating your customers with respect.

It's probably all irrelevant anyway as I believe the reintroducing of fans will be heavily guideline lead and won't be based on a "first come first served" basis.

Going back to topic. One option that should be considered is for season ticket holders to put their season ticket "on ice" for 20/21. This would allow those unable or unwilling to attend games to preserve their regular seat for 21/22 whilst freeing it for one season for the club to utilise in any seating plan reconfigeration to comply with Covid 19 Regs.

I think a,good number of fans would be reassured by knowing their season ticket status/seat was ring fenced for 21/22 . It could also include a "right" for season ticket status for big game or play-off ticket scenarios where they may be willing to leave "hibernation" to attend for a "one off" occasion.

Exactly. It will be led by whatever Govt advice is provided to the footballing authorities on social distancing, the wearing of masks (good luck with that), restrictions on singing and chanting (even more good luck with that) and not left for individual clubs to make up their own rules. The Govt was rightly criticised for the spike in infections after the Liverpool-Athletico game for allowing it to go ahead. They won't want another football match doing that again.

It's interesting how F1 and cricket aren't yet being allowed to have spectators and those sports are played in much more open areas than football. I can't imaging football crowds returning until after some other sports have allowed it and those situations have been reviewed.

None of that of course helps the clubs deciding which of their fans should be allowed to watch the games. And as you say it won't simply be a case of first come first served. That would be chaos leading to a lot of ill feeling.

Just picking up on one small point John. When a match finishes, people move to the exit. There is a compacted crowd on the steps, then in the exit to the concourses, which funnels the spectators. The concourse is packed and once again the crowd packs into the actual exit gate.

I would argue that is far less safe than the environments you highlighted. People on the move tend to exhale more vigorously than those sat down. So unless there was a system which saw people leaving in an orderly fashion, those few minutes would dramatically increase the potential to export/contract the virus.

It's a fair point that it's a concern and would need managing, but it's certainly not unmanageable.

You would not want everyone piling out at the same time, sure, but heck even schools can control kids leaving an assembly having them go row-by-row or whatever. Let's use our 'Great British common sense' that the Conservatives are so fund of touting, and get on with making solutions.

There is so much up-and-running now, tourist destinations, the hospitality industry, theme parks... with no SIGNIFICANT increases in the next month and a half, I repeat that it will be a catastrophic failure of government if outdoor venues aren't opened up come September-October. The time to start planning for it is now - which is where the government has continually failed, making up guidance weeks or even days before policy change.

Let's get the guidelines in place NOW, with games in the new season only played in an empty stadium if a second wave actually materialises. What's more likely to happen, however, is we get towards flu season with no significant spike and either jeopardise our national sports unnecessarily, or we open things up with far less preparedness than we need to.

The trouble is the great British Public! Schools can control kids leaving assembly, but the ‘culture’ of spectators leaving football grounds is hectic/frantic/ slightly chaotic.

A small but significant number (say 10%) actually go before the final whistle.

People ‘move up’ to empty seats nearer the exit.

The evidence in supermarkets is that there are several types of shoppers.
    • Those who comply with the 2 metre rule.
    • Couples who insist on walking down the aisle together.
    • Those who are not able to intellectualise the situation and/or are not aware.
    • People who just ‘switch off’ and wander round in a daze.
    • Some who have masks on and as such feel that they don’t need to comply with the advice.
    • Those who think they are immune and don’t realise they could transmit to friends/family.
    • Those who are aggressive and are out to defy everything.
My thoughts are that a football crowd is highly likely to behave in a very similar pattern. Schools have very different relationships, where pupils and staff know each other and with established patterns of behaviour, social mores and routines are in place.

I was out yesterday and could observe people on trams. I didn’t travel on one, but could see that several people were not wearing masks!

The pessimist in me, thinks a significant number, would not comply with reasonable rules.

You also have the scenario of half time, the toilets and people wanting or needing to leave their seat during the game and as such disturbing a whole row.

It would have to be more than guidelines and uniform systems would have to be in place. For all the reasons I have outlined, I think it will be very difficult.

Simple SB, 'taking the knee' and the 'Black Power Fist' also BLM instead of names on the back of shirts, offends me greatly and has no place in any sport.
The simple 'Keep It Out' situation is ample.
I now refuse to watch, either on TV or live, any type of sport (including football) until this stops.
SKY have lost a customer (and a lot more if what I read is correct) due to this craze.
I just hope that the young kids, who imitate their hero's, don't start doing this in the Junior Leagues, not really understanding what it all means but simply copying them
I have my principles in life and will always, without fear or retribution, stand by them.

On that point I won't make any further comment but of course, will respect others points of view/opinions, should they differ from mine.

Keep well and healthy, BiG (now back in the UK)

Fully entitled to your opinion and don't let anybody really knock you for speaking your thoughts whilst not affecting anybody else.

I personally just find it a very very strange thing to be offended by though.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8518815/Government-allow-fans-Premier-League-games-season-partial-stadium-openings.html

Outside of the top flight, the EFL board had developed proposals for a series of test events to take place at Championship fixtures deemed to be dead rubbers on the final day of the season next Wednesday. But time constraints and the limited number of games with nothing riding on them have led to the plan being put on hold.

As a result, the EFL are focusing efforts on securing Government support for fans to return to stadiums next season, with the additional aspiration that small crowds will be permitted to attend pre-season matches next month. If trials are successful then it is hoped grounds will be able to reopen at 25 per cent capacity in September before welcoming more fans later in the season.

The EFL have been working with the Sports Grounds Safety Authority and Movement Strategies for over two weeks on plans. Charlton & Cambridge being used as models.
