Never mind international breaks, you only have to look at what happened to our form last winter when we didn't play for a couple of weeks.

 

Depends on who is fit at that point. Chances are we will have picked up a few more injuries and some may have returned by then. Really no chance of thinking about which team to pick for the cup this far away from it.
All concentration on port vale. Then Macc. Etc.

 

Maybe a good game for the lads who are coming back from injury and the lads who are on the bench, but like it or not I can't see Bowyer thinking its a "no matter game" he"ll want to continue trying to get wins a good habit to have.

 

As I've posted at the start of this thread, this match is not meaningless and certainly not in Stefan's mind. At the start of the season his view was "We need immediate promotion, a good Cup run in one of the competitions and McBurnie to be sold so we can get back to level", said to me pre the Cambridge game. Winning leads to winning more and I just don't get Fordy and his constant negativity. You should always look to be a winner in everything you do, once you pick and choose the wheels come off. This is a poor draw but throwing the towel in is not the way.

 

This is the guy who criticises fans for accepting mediocracy, then says play a weak team.

 

Same team there about who played Bolton in the efl cup.
Couple of tweeks but i would be playing French, Anderson, Devine, Longridge plus a few of the present first team.

 

Only thing from the conversation you had with Stefan that I care about and so please to hear is him wanting the Immediate position.

I'll say this and keep on saying it all season that anything but going up automatically then we have failed this season. League 2 is so weak that we should be in the top 3 come May.

The McBurnie money I didn't and don't care about with the same applying to a Cup run money.

It's the league cup next week and most team will put out their reserves/youth players and this is because they is a bigger picture.

I'm not saying go into the game to lose. What I am saying is play the reserves with 1st team that need match time for this awful draw as in the long run that will benefit the club. If we win then massive bonus.

Sometimes in life you have to take a hit to move forward.

All our eggs need to be in the going up automatically basket this season!

If we pick the team for the Shrewsbury cup tie that you suggest we would probably lose 4-0 and you’d want Bowyer sacking for that result . It’s not as though it’s a fixture problem as saturdays are reserved for the 1st two rounds, this is a difficult tie but one we could win and could lead to serious money as happened in 2014/15. Just surrendering this tie is not an option.

I would have agreed if we had drawn a none league side, we should be capable of putting a mixture of experiance, players coming back from injury, and maybe a couple of yougsters coming off the bench.
Although as you say you have only the one goal and that is promotion, we know what can be achieved with a a bit of luck if we are still in come round 3.
Shrewsury will be a difficult game with a strong starting 11 so you may get your wish that we aren't in the 2nd round draw.

 

No my wish isn't not to be in the 2nd round draw it's just that I don't care this season if we are or not.

Under Parky we had a better squad and we can't afford to be burning out our key players or risking them getting injuries in a meanless match.

 

Agree with this. It would be a shame not to have the chance of a big third round tie, but surely us being in top top 3 all season would lead to bigger gates from Christmas onwards which might negate this anyway.

Catastrophe if we don’t get promoted this season.

As good as the journey was i think the league cup run in 2013 stopped us been a top 3 side, and the fa cup run in 2015 stopped any charge for the play offs.
Weren't we 5th going into the Millwall tie??

Players run the risk of picking up injuries whilst training but you still have to tackle and make challenges otherwise training is meaningless.
Can't agree the FA Cup game is meaningless.
I do agree getting out of league two is our priority but believe if you can contiue your league form into Cup games it gives the players belief in themselves going forward.
To be honest without pre-warning to traveling fans that the FA Cup game is a low priority and Bowyer is going to go with an under strength team that your suggesting it's not fair on the traveling fans who would no doubt travel in good numbers.
