Personally i don't really think its sly the prices are posted well in advance. Season tickets went up and people didn't moan all that much.

Those were the days!! Fans viewed the first round with anticipation of reaching the third round, and a plum tie. There were a lot fewer season ticket holders in those days so fans were used to "pay on the gate" for league games. Nowadays, with mainly season ticket holders, it seems there is an aversion to coughing up for the early round cup games.

That's true on both counts. I never knew anyone with a season ticket back then.

Unlike some I still live the FA Cup, I’ll be there and glad it’s a home tie. Just hope we can get through and get a crap non league team in round 2, it’ll make the price rise more than worth it.

So do I but the match day experience is likely to be flat, atmosphere wise. Even with cheaper admission, I doubt the attendance would significantly increase. It really is difficult to fully explain why a home FA Cup game is likely to attract only 25% of the spectators, compared to the preceeding home league game.

In the main those that main about it are your sky sports arm chair fan who are pissed off when the Premier League misses a week because of it, it’s a sad state of affairs that attendances are as low as they are in the early stages. Maybe it’s just because there is so much football now, once upon a time it was the only cup competition.

If we f*cked the Carabao and Pizza Trophy's off and, like the vast majority of other countries, had only one national cup competition, it would mean a HELL of a lot more, and attendances would be on a par if not higher than league games.

I think it’s part of the reason, but I was more thinking with just how easy to watch and accessible football is now in comparison to 50/60 years ago I think that makes a big difference. That’s why PPV football was never going to take off unless all games were. It’s not like boxing where you have a big fight every 3 months, don’t pay for a football another 5 or so will be on the same week.

I’ve always thought the pizza cup should be scrapped and League Cup made championship to league 2. That way prem teams have one less distraction, championship teams have a chance at a trophy and the bottom two leagues have less games as well. I don’t know how much of a difference that would make to attendances in the FA Cup, I don’t really know what attendances are like in div 3 and 4 of European countries it’d be interesting to see how they hold up in their cups.

£15 would be okay if you could be certain the players were going to turn up. I'm not risking it.

The problem with the FA cup is the PL and even Championship clubs don’t take it seriously until the later rounds.
If we battled through to the 3rd round, sustaining injuries etc. and drew Liverpool we’d probably see the same kind of team that we faced in the friendly a few years ago.
The solution is to increase the rewards and force all clubs to play at least 8 of the starting lineup from their last league game

The FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP has as you say been around since the 1960’s. As the Football League Cup it was the competition that saw us get to the (Capital One then) final in 2013.

The problem is that with sponsorship they keep changing the name. It is Carabao (you even spelt it incorrectly Dave) at the moment, apparently an energy drink, which l have never had, feel no urge to drink, and will never do so.

For me it should the the Football League Cup…..sponsored by Carabao. Just calling it the Carabao cup, diminishes its worth.

The competition is okay, it is the tacky sponsorship which……sticks in the throat!

Although I agree with your comment doesn’t playing a weaker team give the teams that get through a better chance of progressing.

You should have paid £10 for an away priority which were still available after the Millwall replay.

No, I’d rather see a full strength PL team even if that means a cricket score.

Agree, they used to be the be all and end all most seasons sat at the arse end of Division Four.

Man U tossers started the rot, not one First Division team played with a bunch of kids in those days. It was unheard of. !

Yes they played European games as well before anyone asks.

Now the first few rounds for Prem Clubs and some CC are an inconvenience! Selfish tw@ts.
