Something I read recently pointed out that the Coming Home song is about hope not expectation. I agree and is a reason why I loved it. It being taken over by those who then go on about 'German Bombers', etc, was depressing enough when they were a mindless minority. Now, though, they are the mindless majority, and I find it impossible to support.

I did that during the season we last got relegated. Ten quid on the oppo winning. I think I was about 300 quid up at the end of the season. As you say, takes the edge off the loss, and if we win, then hey ho, we won! However, don't want to jinx anything tmrw. Will stick my usual halftime/fulltime bet on, plus Slabhead and Stones to score first. Hasn't paid off so far (altho is has done in the past), but can't break tradition!

 

Other than the Ukraine game, I’ve been pessimistic before each of our games and i feel the same. Mainly because I’ve never rated Southgate but I hope he proves me wrong tomorrow. My main worry is that he’ll adapt our system to play an extra midfielder to combat their 3. He could just drop Mount deeper, but I think he’ll drop Saka, put Mount on the right and play Henderson in midfield. Which I think would be a huge mistake - we need runners either side of Kane.

 

The key to winning is getting to Jorginho, their current version of Pirlo.
Hustle and hassle him early and often.
He pulls Italy's strings.
Mount will know all about him and if it isn't Mount then bring in Henderson to do the job.

I'm not sure. I wonder if he'll go with wingbacks again to counter the threat from Insigne and Emerson down the left, leaving Walker's pace as second level cover.
On the other hand, he'll probably want Mount to sit on Jorghino, which would cut off the supply at source.
Either way, I'm sure he'll want Sterling and Saka cutting inside to run at their central defenders, with Grealish to come on and draw more fouls as they tire.

 

Yes, on balance, I think you're right. He'd have to lose Mount if he goes with wingbacks and I don't think he'll want to do that because a) they play with three in midfield so we'd be outnumbered there and b) I think he'll want Mount to sit on Jorginho.
