    I feel a lot of people actually don’t really watch Lingard close enough when they are critical of him. Yes he hasn’t directly contributed a goal or assist for United for a long time but that doesn’t mean he isn’t contributing. He is a player who allows the more creative players to contribute. He is constantly making runs into positions that draw defenders to him and creates space for other players to attack. And when a player does leave his position or the ball turns over he is always willing to fill that space and track back. He is basically does the job Ji Sung Park used to do for United in that he is the high energy, unselfish player who allows others to perform

    Also the assist stat is also somewhat misleading, he may not get the assist stat but he is also often the player who assists the player who provides the assist for the goal scorer

    Harry Maguire thinks he is much better than he actually is, strolling about casually all evening. You need to be as good as Bobby Moore or Franz Beckenbauer to be able to be defend in a laid back manner such as that. As for Michael Keane, nowhere near good enough to be starting for England.
    First time Ive really seen Declan Rice play and he looked out of his depth at that level

    I think Southgate will take him. He seems to trust him and knows what he'll get. He's also on form which shouldn't be underestimated in tournament football.

    It's a fair enough shout. We've better players in that position that have been doing it for the majority of the season so Jesse can't feel too hard done by.

    Haven't seen the final squad yet, anyone know if Jarrod Bowen made it?

    Very similar argument was made against Emile Heskey. Except lots of top managers kept picking him. Ok he may not great for your fantasy football team but he may be great for your actual team. It’s just a lazy way to criticise using stats

    Sorry but how can anyone defend Lingard.He's utter sh@te.

    Came on against Southampton and even though Southampton were down to 10 men putting Lingard on meant the sides were equal.

    He highlights one of the reasons Utd are going backwards and are yesterday's fish and chip wrapper.

    Utd really are the 2nd club in Manchester with players like Lingard.

    Think this will be his last England call up for a while and Southgate called him up to say look I believe in you but you need to up your game.

    Agree, both teams look like scoring every time they go forward. Need to tighten up defensively or we will get punished heavily by the better teams..

    How poor and shaky do England look so far tonight in the Czech Republic. Defensively they look a shambles and the midfield being overrun. This after taking a lead in the 5th minute too
