First and only player in the modern era, male or female, to go from the qualifiers all the way through to win it.
Whatever comes after, that was an incredible achievement.
Go girl!

Nothing sexist about remarking on someone's beauty. Apparently she just got a couple of A's on her A levels too. Smart, talented, beautiful. The world's her oyster!Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Salty and TallinnBantam like this. -
Anyone who follows British Tennis has known for years the hype that has surrounded her but I don't think anyone expected such a sudden rise, especially when this is only her 5th WTA or higher level tournament. And until Nottingham in June this year she hadn't played tennis since she lost in the ITF Final in Sunderland in the last week of Feb 2020 (Well apart from playing some matches at one of the Battle of the Brits events)
She really has everything though, great on both wings, has a variety of shots, moves amazingly and has a great serve (but which can certainly get better as she gets stronger). And most importantly has great intelligence which is often something that's lacking with tennis players, especially in the woman game, you get way too many who have great shots but can only play one way, they can't look at an opponent and work out how to dismantle their game or can change if their plan isn't working.
The only thing that I think will prevent her from winning a bag load of slams is Injury, we saw with Laura Robson who had the ability to be at the top of the game that sometimes a bad injury can derail you and you just can't predict them (Or in Laura's case first she had a Wrist Injury that took 2 operations to fix up and just as she was starting to find confidence in her body again and results were starting to come she then got a hip injury which she has had 3 failed operations on and has recently had a 3rd)Stop hovering to collapse... I'm feeling argumentative today, which is normally a bad sign. Let's take the thread on a different tangent.
I don't know who this bloke is but he seems an attention seeker and a clickbaiter having had a quick read of his social media. He's not the only one whos gone down this road, halfwits like David Schneider another who spends his spare time looking for likes and retweets. I mentioned the other day that this growing industry of 'racism' will never be allowed to be wiped out and this sort of click baiting for the posters own benefit proves why. A momentous achievement hijacked for political purposes. Sign of the times I supposeSalty likes this. -

400/1 to win before the competition kicked off. I'm hoping her friends and family piled on the cash! Great to watch. Are people having a go that she was born in Canada, to a Chinese mother and Romanian dad? Doesn't suprise me really. Sadly that's how it is these days.
She's also great to look at too! (I guess that's sexist).Faithful Bantam likes this. -

Watching BBC news test night I was angered by the woman referring to Emma's marketing ability as though she was a product rather than an 18 year old tennis player.
I just hope her family support her as she copes with her new fame.Stafford Bantam likes this. -

A few weeks ago you could have more or less named your odds for her winning Sports Personality of the Year (and I know a few who backed her recently at 33 to 1), Today the bookies have effectively given her the award.
Her life has been changed forever. I hope she learns to handle it all and that she continues to enjoy her career. And, of course, I hope she continues to entertain us all with her wonderful tennis.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand... -

A truly astonishing achievement. To come through qualifiers, and play ten matches without dropping a set or even going to a tiebreak, to win a Major in only your second big tournament, aged 18, is just mind-boggling.
She's become an overnight superstar. Given her talent, looks and personality she is going to be a massive media and commercial target. Let's hope she's able to cope with the pressures and concentrate on further developing her already formidable tennis skills. -

She will need a very good team off court to shield her from the whirlwind that’s coming so she can concentrate on her tennis

Hopefully she has a good family support system behind her. Always crucial in keeping young superstars grounded and humble.
