I agree but tax fraud is huge compared to benefit fraud, It just seems we pick on the poorest to expose it denigrating them rather than the people who cheat on tax which seems to be ignored, The mum of two kids on benefits is paid a few quid on her claim it will be all over the papers and media, A rich person cheats on his tax and it rarely gets reported to the same extent, You yourself pay more tax to cover tax cheats but do the same in attacking the same amount of benefit fraud and not the huge amount we all have to pay to tax cheats

Thats a fair comment. I think a lot of people forget why taxes were implemented hundreds of years ago and it wasn't for our benefit and still isn't to this day. Thats why Corbyn will never win with his ideas, its great in theory giving from the poor to the rich but in truth its always been the other way round. Unless he can somehow rewrite history. If i was rich i probably wouldn't give a toss.

Several of our MPs scandalously fiddled expenses for years and have never been properly punished.

Yes, I get that money never sleeps. But money invested from profits/inherited wealth directly into reinvestment here, or paid in UK taxes, is clearly far more likely to benefit our economy than money spirited away to the Cayman Islands or other tax havens, which often end up being invested anywhere in the world but here.
The UK rich have been on investment strike in our economy for decades. We cannot keep allowing money generated hear to leak overseas in enormous quantities.

I must admit, I can’t sleep at night worrying about what might happen if Mike Ashley, Philip Green and Richard Branson lose a few quid.

You won't be losing much sleep at all. Two of them definitely won't lose anything from an increase in tax rates for the wealthy since they have already chosen to live in overseas tax havens rather than be liable to UK taxes! The third one has a retailing empire with some very strange and opaque ownership structure which so far as his companies' profits are concerned, finish up in British overseas tax havens and even HMRC can't get full visibility. That also applies to others such as Tim Martin whilst others such as James Dyson have 'moved' the tax domicile of their businesses outside of the UK jurisdiction.

Now if the UK were to fully implement the new EU Directive 1164, the Anti Tax Avoidance Directive, UK tax authorities would have a right to levy tax at UK rates on these hidden profits of the wealthy and their companies. But of course, we'd have to be a member of the EU for that to happen, It might make you wonder why many of these individuals are such strong and vocal Brexit supporters?

I was under the impression we still are and have been for the last 44 years, have we just realised since we're coming out of the EU ?..

What are you talking about? You're making no sense in relation to what I posted.

ATAD is a new directive and is only now being implemented across the EU. And so far the UK has done little to implement its key features. And won't have to do once we leave the EU.

Right so it hasn't been implemented yet, so it was a little poke in the ribs for the leave voters because as you say we wont be around to see it implemented or if it actually works.

Call me cynical, but i doubt the likes of boris and mogg(inherited wealth) and leadsom(married wealth) would be in favour of this EU directive.

That is not the direction the current tories want to take us.
Merkel let the cat out of the bag with her "singapore" comment but funnily enough that country puts far more into its public services despite its low tax regime.
Plus i am sure all the american money coming to our public services will be greatfully received.
On a nod and a wink.

Thinking about voting? Here's just one good reason not to vote for the two faced lying hypocritical tw@ts. Cooper is exactly what is wrong with politics in this country and until we get rid of the likes her and the like the political spectrum of this country will be forever tainted.

It's ridiculous though. All the major parties these days spend more on smear campaigns than they do on telling us what they can actually do well.

They try to make themselves appear better by making everyone else appear worse instead of focusing on actually improving themselves.

It's no wonder there's a rapidly growing band of people like myself that believe the whole bloody lot of them are unelectable!

Of course the timing matters. If it didn't then why didn't labour bring it up when he was elected as mayor of London. Or why didn't they bring it up when he was made leader of the conservative party and as such PM. Or why didn't they bring it up in tbe Brexit debate before a general election was announced?

Transparent is the colour I'd choose to vote these days. Unfortunately though the transparency is far to common to choose a worthwhile cause.

Labour should be talking about the actual change to taxation that would be imposed. At the moment I feel a lot of the electorate are holding out on Labour because they can’t afford to be taxed more. “Going to be just like Venezuela innit’?”

Labour’s tax rises are extremely moderate and don’t even impact anyone earning less than £85k/year. They’re not doing enough to get this across yet.

I’m curious those who think that taxation can only go down though, at some point tax has to be increased in some capacity to pay for the public realm that we all use. Roads, emergency services, schools, hospitals, public transport. All things that an awful lot of people, rich and poor, need funding properly.

Every billionaire is a policy failure. I wouldn’t contest that their money has been acquired legally, but nobody ‘earns’ a billion pounds. It’s impossible.

There’s simply no way of becoming a billionaire without rank exploitation of some kind or another. You can be the hardest working person on this planet and billionaires are taking the piss out of you. Billionaires are not the ones creating jobs. Why would they care about somebody working for them other than as a unit of labour? Why would they reward anybody else’s endeavour? That’s not how you acquire a billion quid.

I'd suggest the 3 examples I've use, and there are many more who have created jobs for thousands of people.
I accept working hard for someone else will not make you a billionaire the difference being at sometime in their working life those people with money would have taken a risk possibly putting all they had to create their dream, which is different to money being inherited
    .
Where as the vast majority of workers are quite happy to have the security of earning a salary without risk in most cases, do your hours and pick up a wage at the end if the month.
Rather than quoting not having billionaires in the UK we should be welcoming these people, invest in our work force and bring jobs to the UK.
I've posted many times IMO many of the utilities should not be in private ownership in my lifetime we've seen what hammering the ultra rich does, the more we tax these people the more likely they will find a way of getting round it.
