I will continue to boycott this competition whilst it continues to include 'B' teams.
However, I hope Gary Bowyer makes good use of the competition, to give run outs to those fringe players that need the extra game time and those coming back from injury, whilst pocketing a bit of prize money.Stop hovering to collapse... could not care less, personally.
I want the club to do well in it, but only because the prize money isn't bad now. 10k per win in the group stage.Bronco and Interested Bystander like this. -

For as long as I can remember, fans have never taken much interest in the Sherpa, Johnstone Paints, Micky Mouse cup until the semi final stage. I'm sure if we got within a whiff of Wembley we'll be out in force.
It interesting that domestic cup competitions are sold not so much as the prestige or the possibilty of glory. But on the cash the club receives for winning. a round.
It seems monet rules football and fans have become accountants. Sold dreams not based on glory but on a balance sheets.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Inspector and Interested Bystander like this. -

All the potential away games are ideal for me.
My boycott of the competition appears not to have had much influence so I'll probably pop along to one this season.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Interested Bystander and FrenchBantam like this. -

There was a massive gate for the final last season. Whatever anybody says the lure of Wembley and a final is strong

For me the league cup is fine as it is but the EFL Trophy could be changed. The amount of teams and the way it's run i like with the group stages but the teams need to change from the invited teams being conference teams not Premier League B teams. I'd follow a similar set up to the Scottish League Cup and have the group stage at the end of Pre-season so you have matches that mean something in pre-season and teams are more likely to play strong teams. Also if the final was earlier in the season then it gets it out of the way and keeps the interest and away from the end of the season when fixtures start to pile up.Mighty Bantam and BoingBoing like this. -

No, nah ........ I don't care !! This poxed up trophy is just a very minor, but annoying disruption to a lower league / lower cousin to the Officers at the 'top table'. WE neither want, or need it.
I've personally NOT attended ONE game in any sponsorship guise of this, nor do I intend to.
Promotion is ALWAYS a number one priority. To boost revenue ? We have adequate in the L Cup, and FA Cup .
It's up to City to capitalise on those three, rather than frog kiss a fourth nonentity, which hinders.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Stafford Bantam likes this. -

It would be great if this was a League Cup draw and proper first XIs. Maybe something for the EFL to think about going forward.
This competition is absolutely shite and the League Cup has lost the magic it had in the 80s and 90s.RonnieBrown likes this. -

Southampton- League1 runners up and promoted the follow year
Carlisle- just missed out of the POs that season and finished 8th the season after
Chesterfield- finished 3rd bottom the season they won the trophy and finished 8h in L2 the season following
Crewe- finished 13th followed by 19th the season after
Posh- lost in the POs followed by 9th the season after
Bristol C- Champions of L1 followed by 18th in Championship
Barnsley- finished 6th and promoted to Championship via POs, followed by a 14th place finish
Coventry- finished 23rd and relegated followed by a 6th place finish and promotion via the POs
Lincoln1 finished 7th and lost PO semi, followed by finishing 1st and promotion.
Pompey- finished 4th and lost in POs. Unknown how they will fare next season
So, as you can see, a mixed bag, but most did well the season they won it, or did well the season following. So not that much of a distraction/hindrance and actually can work in the club’s favour?Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...
